Can anyone explain in simple terms what it is, what it does beyond xbox 360? I have no clue about gaming, but the kids have asked if they can get a gold membership. Ta
Without gold membership you can only play the single player of the games, gold enables you to play online with the multiplayer
Hi, if you are thinking of getting gold you can get cheaper 12month gold codes through online merchants. I use one called electronic first for mine. www.electronicfirst.com Also with Xbox Gold at the moment you get 2 free games per month to keep even after you decide not to get gold anymore.
Mmm - just purchased online .... the instant voucher has not come through. I've gone onto their help chat thing and have been told that their supplier has given them a batch of counterfeit codes, and so they are getting more in the next 2 days. Not impressed. :-(
I usually buy mine off eBay, from whoever has the best feedback. Saves me a tenner and from having to go out, get a code emailed within half an hour most times
Unless it has changed,be aware that the gold is linked to one profile, so unless 2 kids are willing to share the account, you may need to buy another!!!
Bit of a con really, without it you don't have access to most of the Xbox's best features - like catchup TV and being able to use Netflix/Lovefilm through it and of course play games online which is something a PS3 doesn't charge extra for.
Usually they are pretty good. I haven't ordered one for nearly a year though. Mine is due in April. I also order points off them now and again. Sorry you have a had a bad experience but at least they have acknowledged the problem and will sort it. Of course this doesn't help the pestering kids!
No worries, it's not your fault! They've just e mailed some scan of a code through. Not convinced, but will see if they can get it working.
Bought mine off ebay. Emailed a scanned code within 2 hours. Be wary of the free games. It was only scheduled to end of year (31st dec 13) as of yet I've not heard if its extended or owt....
Looks like they might be extending it..... http://news.softpedia.com/news/Free...ames-with-Gold-in-January-Report-412046.shtml
I purchases family membership last year. 80 quid for 4 accounts but Microsoft scrapped it middle if this year. Probably losing too much cAsh
Regarding the PS3 not needing a subscription fee. It's feels very basic does the PS3 online service compared to xbox. PS4 charge a subscription fee now as they realised how far they were behind Xbox online services. Regarding buying from websites who send you a code. I'd avoid them, I mate paid for 12 months but is weirdly ran out after about 5.
reason psn for ps3 looks basic compared to Xbox live is because most the crap xbox offers as part of their live service, ps3 let you have for free. Disgusting that you have to purchase xbox live to be able to use netflix on the console which a subscription service in its own right. Things like on demand, music videos etc are all free on ps3. playstation plus has existed for a long time and always been optional and has offered lots more than xbox live. Only difference on ps4 is they have made subscribing to psn plus a requirement to play online multiplayer games. But even now everyone in the house can have a playstation account on the console using just one subscription We have 2 xbox 360's in our house just got rid of ps3 and now got ps4. For me only good thing about the xbox is the online. Party system for the kids to chat with friends., something which ps3 lacked Other than that its not even close to being as good as playstation
