Cook-struggling with his technique and needs a big score Carberry-gets himself set then gets himself out Root-gone backwards Trott-probably finished internationally Pietersen-his talent and ego are of similar proportions Bell-still quality Prior-loss of firm/confidence worrying Stokes-one shining light Swann-quit maybe too early Bresnan-getting back to fitness Broad-ok bowling average/poor batting Panesar-best spinner after Swann which is a worry Anderson-not his best series Finn-not good enough Bairstow-not good enough Tremlett-not good enough Ballance-unproven Rankin-unproven
I'd disagree on Cook who I think is struggling with the burden of captaining a struggling side rather than his technique. He batted beautifully yesterday. I also think the stick Pietersen gets is absurd. Yet again I think he's had more stick than anyone else - he's got the highest batting average on the tour for us (admittedly below his usual standard). Don't disagree with much else, though I'm reluctant to write a few of them off just on the basis of this series - Finn just needs to sort his run-up out and he has huge potential (look at the way Johnson has come back for Oz) and I certainly think Root will kick on again.
Broad-ok bowling average/poor batting, I would say hes been Englands best bowler in both series. Also hes not a bad batter. Okay hes not done it in this series but hes got one 100 and ten 50's. Averages 25 with bat. Shane Warne called Mitchel Johnson a all rounder and and he averages 23 and only 1 run per wicket less than Stuart with the ball. Another Bairstow, how can you say hes not good enough. Hes been pooed on by England. Both in the summer and now hes come in to the team with hardly playing. Saying that it was the same in last winter in New Zealand. It's not fair. He's had one chance properly on the big stage and he played brilliantly and got 96 against South Africa at Lords. I also disagree with you on, Root Cook and Finn.
The worst in living memory, says my cricket loving friend. And that's the nicest thing he said about them.
Cook - wonderful hand/eye coordination, but often woeful footwork. Hence he struggles with the shot pitched stuff and the ones that leave him. Fantastic when on song. Carberry- Just not good enough. All the determination, but not got the natural talent. Root-gone backwards - agreed. Will come good, but a series too far for him this one. Trott-probably finished internationally - The most technically correct batsman we have. Mentally, questionable. Pietersen-his talent and ego are of similar proportions - agreed. Awesome talent, but aside from digging in a handful of times, only ever played for KP. Bell-still quality. Agreed. Prior-loss of firm/confidence worrying - Agreed, although will never be the best wicketkeeper. We wanted an Adam Gilchrist, and he's the closest we've got. Stokes-one shining light - Not seen enough of him, but fingers crossed. Looks promising, but another one with footwork issues. Swann-quit maybe too early - without a doubt. World class spinner, but again you have to question the temperament. Bresnan-getting back to fitness - Never been good enough. Decent squad player if you're really, really desperate to have that extra seamer. Broad-ok bowling average/poor batting - Most irritating player we have. On his day, as a pace bowler, he's well up there, and as a lower order batsman, he's quality. Sadly, he doesn't have too many days until he's on the verge of being dropped, and suddenly he shows what he is actually capable of. With consistency, he's our best player. Not consistent though. Panesar-best spinner after Swann which is a worry - Agreed. Anderson-not his best series - Slowed down and relying too much on swing. No fall back when it's not swinging. Finn-not good enough - Has the height and the bounce to trouble batsmen, but he's too nice. A bit of chin music every now and again, and he could be intimidating. Questions about his accuracy and his endurance though. Bairstow-not good enough Tremlett-not good enough Ballance-unproven Rankin-unproven[/QUOTE] Agreed with rest, with an 'unproven' proviso around Bairstow, although that may be Yorkshire bias.
I can't wait to get up in the morning to view a trail of statistics and quotes which prove that Root, cook, Bairstow, are superior to Vaughan, Gooch, Gower.
No funnier than your cricket opinions Phillip. I am being honest on what I have seen on this current tour and dont feel I am being harsh.
Not a joke Phil, I reckon most of Jack's summaries are spot on. This Ashes series has been like our season so far - an effing disaster.
so we are judging one of the most successful England teams on ONE series. funnly enough I can't remember all this posts about the Win in India which is probably the harder place to go
Thsts gone History Deal with the here and now Crap And likely to get crspper dven if we win thid game
We also notice that you haven't been replying to old posts about Ashes predictions and showing how wise and knowledgeable you were. You know? A bit like when SM said Cook had a flawed technique and would be exposed? Swings both ways. Life that is. Not SM. Or Anderson's bowling.
Okay go and check. I said they had a very good bowl attack and there batting isnt the best. I still go by that. Okay I said England would win. Okay.
So, apart from getting who would win right, you were spot on with everything else. That's all right then. I'm going to claim a Lottery win from Camelot, as I happened to be in the right region for every single ball that came out. In fact, I'm sure I've picked all of them at one time or another. Didn't get any of the numbers this time, but doesn't look like that matters.
Correct As captain he has to go It will probably help his batting too God knows sho would be the next captain
