http://www.theguardian.com/football...derer-record-debts-163m-relegation?CMP=twt_gu How can this be acceptable for a championship club?
And Gartside lying thro his teeth saying it's because of relegation. They were making huge losses in the Premier League as well, it's just continued to spiral to a ridiculous amount now. I bet they are hoping Eddie Green doesn't get fed up and walk away.
This in itself is a great example of how football has eaten itself. When clubs are losing vasts amounts of money but still pay their players 20-40k per week then I'm sorry, but my love for the game is decreasing on a daily basis. To me, football was about watching your home town club, whilst holding a dream that one day it could compete against the countries top teams by creating a team of players we could all connect with. Those dreams have almost disappeared for me. I loved our club, I loved football, I loved what we did in 97/98 against all the odds. For us to achieve that again we would have to sell our soul, the playing field isn't level when you are up against a plethora of teams who are cheating the system. Money wins, it always has done but now the gap is wider than ever before. To be fair some of our local rivals will look at us with jealousy. We have a very rich owner who has bankrolled us for years however in a pond of far bigger fish his 80million fortune isn't enough. 80 million is made to look like pocket change... It's ******* revolting.
Absolutely spot on, only go to Oakwell out of habit and not interested in Premier League and international football any more. The recent goings on at Cardiff and then this about Bolton just sum it all up. To be honest you could list loads of similar examples, Blackburn, the Fowls, Birmingham etc etc etc. Doomed.
Tez Nutkins is spot on! I've just seen this on SS and was appalled. We lose at home to them days ago, we're trying to do things the 'right' way. The quicker this FFP comes in the better. Although I'm rather cynical in the fact that it'll be littered with loopholes to help the rich?!?
That sort of debt wouldn't even be a problem for us, we could just sell Kennedy and McNulty and slash it in half.
No doubt Gartside will claim these results justify a Premier League 2 for 'massive' clubs like Bolton, Blackburn, Leeds, Wolves, Wendys who just can't survive on Championship income etc. FFP needs to have points deductions not just a small fine.
Not sure mate, just basing it on accounts filed not long before we went into admin: This doesn't tell the whole story though as I'm pretty sure there was some spending that Summer, the financial problems seemed to come out of the blue (publicly at least) and I reckon they also used it as an opportunity to shift players on who still had a while to run on big contracts. Maybe had it been put off for a year we'd have been £15m in debt or something.
Sorry above is the current accounts, this is the last one that the old company filed. Worryingly this shows a much healthier position than we find ourselves in at the moment! :nails:
