Looks like Ballence Borthwick Rankin in
    Out: Bresnan panesar Root

Amazed that they've left Carberry in and Root's gone out.

Listening to Strauss and hes right we don't know whats going off inside but i'm amazed that they've gone that way.

I'm sure the ex-England captain will be pleased to know that you endorse his views.

No idea. Definitely not at work, though. Honest.

It's Borthwick I worry about. We have a habit of picking leg-spinners hoping they'll be the next Warne, Qadir, Kumble or Ahmed, and give them two tests to do it before dropping them and forgetting they ever existed.

Worryingly, the Aussies go all out to knock spinners out of the attack. Hope the lad has plenty of self belief, and hope the selectors stick with him even if he gets battered all over the ground.

I think hes an alrounder Gaz from what they've said.

I believe Durham moved him up to 3 or 4 last season and he scored a good amount with the bat.
Boycott came out and said after they played at Yorkshire he was the outstanding talent in that team and not Stokes.

Yeah but like you've said times many, Boycott doesn't have a clue.

If they drop Carberry thats him done for good, "resting" Root means he comes back in the future and gives Carberry one last chance this week.

Borthwick might get battered around a bit today ala Kerrigan especially as hes a bat who bowls, lets hope he goes well

He's a good talent no doubt. Having seen him play a fair number of times I think he will add to the batting now the gap has been left by Bresnan dropping out at 8.

I'm more worried about him being Englands front line spinner on Australia's biggest spinning wicket. I don't believe he has the capability to be Englands number 1 spinner, yet.

Its a bold move and I hope it comes off for him. Remember, its only 6 months or so ago England ruined another young spinners confidence by picking him from out of nowhere.

For me Stokes is there outstanding talent and he once again probably doesn't but lets wait and see.

I'm not all that surprised that Root has been dropped to be honest - I think its an exercise in refocusing him. He was playing so much better at number six.

They've done it before Tarry Nutkins.
Rashid went around the world with England, got picked in SA got smashed and then dropped.
Yorkshire said last season he only just got back to his Best

And Cooks won a toss, get in. He didn't seem confident.

surely he should be opening. Thats what he does.

England have got India in the summer and hes got to Open against them with Cook.
Think we need a new number three though.

Rashid didnt play Test cricket but I get your drift if you mean in ODIs.

Fingers crossed he goes well, although by the looks of it he'll hardly get a bowl in the first dig, with it being so green.

He was playing so well at number six though. Playing against the new ball hasn't done him any favours on this tour. He's certainly got a future but I can understand why they have dropped him for the final test.

    yes.
Think England have got one big plus out this tour, Stokes.
England have been looking for one of those for years.

Root flopped all summer apart from one good innings. Then he's flopped all winter with no good innings. He can't keep his place just because he's the 'future'.
