If you've not owned one before I'd suggest anyone try them, but when it comes to upgrading again it just feels like exactly the same phone which is why I jumped the Apple ship as far as phones are concerned.

My 4S is now an iPod permanently attached to my car. I really hope Apple change the game with the next one but I can't see it, to me they've felt dated for a long time now and the makers of Android phones have really got their act together, all the higher end ones released in the last 18 months or so are really good and upgrades actually seem worth it.

Agree Acca Tracker is a good app but First app should be My Sports Diary .... Get all the Barnsley fixtures on your phone and then available offline, results will be added in the next few weeks :)

I think my Samsung galaxy s3 as just about had it too, almost constantly on charge or the battery is lucky to last while mid afternoon.

Not sure whether to stick with Samsung or go back down the iPhone route myself

What annoys me about smartphones these days is the lack of the ability to remove the battery (not easily anyway).

It would be nice to have the option of carrying a spare seeing as if you're out all day (like going to an away match), it's very unlikely to last all day.

Also the fact that they are being charged more often means the life of the battery is going to be shortened - after 18 month of a two year contract my iPhone battery would last barely 8 hours even with moderate usage.

Years ago with my old 3GS I bought an external battery pack - it took 4 AA batteries and could recharge the phone whilst on the go or using it - I put rechargeable batteries in so it was cheap to run. It still works with my 4S but I dont need it as often - I can even do a days walking with the gps tracking my steps without a recharge as long as its fully charged when I start. just need to be careful what apps you are running. There is an app called Bria which we use at work and converts your phone into an extension of our office network so as long as you have a wifi ( or 3G ) signal you can make all calls via the companies voip server and that kills the battery in about half a day even if you arent makeing calls

I have actually got something like that but it's only really useful for emergencies - if the phone is dead it probably gives you about 20 minutes more use. Hardly seems worth carrying around for that but maybe one that I can put rechargeable batteries in would be better.

I've noticed that will apps caning the battery as well, thought I'd got a problem with my battery a few weeks ago as the battery went from something like 60% to 20% in the space of about half an hour, turned out to be a rogue app. There is a handy thing built into Android which tells you which apps or elements of the phone are using the battery, if any app is using more than the screen I get rid of it as that should never happen.

If I put decent rechargebles in eg the Maplin 2500mA/h batteries I can get about 3 full recharges of the phone from one charge of the battery
There are apps for iphone that give you power usage - I use one called Battery Doctor which is quite a good one for pointing out high drain apps

i use sofa score - pretty neat how you can set you faves so you get alerts everytime your team(s) play.
hooked up to my pebble its awesome when at the footy. Phone stays in pocket, no checking of scores etc - i just get alerts to my watch which i can have a quick look at. Saves on battery as well from not using the screen on the phone all the time.
