He has made the point. The upper class Tories told a pack of lies, and totally denied it when asked by the media. Greatrix was found to be a thief. Scargill was ostracised because he was the leader of the largest and strongest union, but he was right on 70 pits and thousands of job losses. McGregor the American hit man denied he was to shut pits, total liar. The south yorks police tried every trick in the book to down the miners. The Met police were the worst thieves in the area when they arrived, pinching Miners lamps for souvenirs. Barnsley and areas never the same, crushed by the Tory *******s

Unions have a unity with other unions all over the world. They were not the NUM enemies, and helped the members families to eat.

It's a well know fact that the footage of the num representive in Libya was from years before the miners strike . This was another tory far right act to get the people of Britain behind the witch .

Unfortunately it was cheaper to import coal and still is, it would have been nice have kept the mines open and kept those jobs but the industry would have needed massive subsidies from the government and they didn't want to pay it and most taxpayers from non-mining backgrounds would probably agree with that. Plus you have EU clean air regulations which would have closed them anyway and that's a good thing for the environment certainly as we're not breathing in all that smog, plus Scandinavian countries don't have acid rain anymore.

There are other positives as well, mining was a dangerous occupation, people died underground and their health was ruined by breathing in the coal dust, Manvers was mentioned above, there are lots of jobs there in call centres, yes they're not the best jobs but at least they're not dangerous, if the mines were still open people (certainly young people) wouldn't want to work in them and most of the miners would be Polish.

Think that representative was there unofficially and there was something sinister in his motives tbh he came onto the media saying Scargill had sent him then was in a conspiracy to defraud the NUM. As ever all the stories about Scargill were only to belittle his position not one charge or conspiracy theory has ended in him losing a court ruling or led to an arrest unlike most of his accusers

    100 % wrong (again)
The coal stations are still running (producing 50% of the countries energy needs) thus the pollution you talk about is still happening
not sure how EU clean air regs (whatever they are ) would close coal mines
your comment about miners today being polish just enchances how much of a **** you are , you keep the blue flag flying and look forward to paying for your expensive electricity

Strange how government money recently kept Grangemouth refinery open , are you ok with that then ?

They would be Polish, you think school leavers today would want to spend their days getting dirty underground?

The EU has emissions targets which we have to meet that's why we've been closing coal-fired power stations and moving to gas ones.

What about the thousands of meaningful jobs that serviced the mining industry. Anyway we still burning coal in large quantities and paying a lot more money for it

100% wrong again - we are either mothballing gas stations or closing them due to the 'spark' price being too high
Electricity generated by gas is at a all time low
utility companies are not building new ones due to this fact
keep making things up to keep the blue flag flying

You just don't get it .! If the collierys were still open , the school leavers ( British) would follow their fathers and brothers into the coal industry .Easy Eh .
