    Nuclear power stations are reaching the end of their lives, oil and coal ones are being closed down because of the EU, gas powered ones meet all the EU regulations so it has to be gas for the future, unless you think perpetual motion is finally going to be cracked.

    So why are all the generators not building new gas plant to cover the shortfall ?
    Rwe are skint
    Sse have said no to new build
    Oil plants ? Name one above 50 mw
    Gas is going to get dearer the business case for new build fid is not there

    Some of the plants are complying and it is costing them a fortune. The others are too old so will shut. Do not worry about it as it is another big Tory **** up. The whole cost is to be passed on by Drax etc to the consumers. Get ready for the price rise. With regards to the pits closing, a lot were profitable but a cunning financial arrangement made the loss pits. British coal were the leaders in Mechanical, Electrical and mining apprenticeships. Outstanding. If the youngsters of today had that privelage they would not only be in employment but would be made for life in ability
