Just a couple of short clips of an interview with Barry Murphy done last week. In one he talks about Allan Clarkes arrival and the other regarding the 19687/68 promotion team.

They are only on vimeo for a few days as a test but some may find them interesting.

Brilliant. Thanks for that, I remember him playing in the days when fullbacks took goal kicks!

Yes, that's great. Started watching the Reds the season before, and remember Spud well.

He's a great ambassador for the club from a bygone era!

A few older pieces added to the original Barry Murphy ones I posted a few weeks back.

There is Frank Bartlett, Charlie Williams, Mick McCarthy and Allan Clarke.

Only posted up snippets but if you are looking to pass a few minutes here is a nice look down memory lane.

This is brilliant stuff - well done you! Listening to McCarthy and Murphy talking about those great days makes the hairs on the back of the neck stand up.

It's funny though, when you think about players like Barry Murphy. A real club stalwart, still there. Played hundreds of matches for Barnsley but, at the time, you wondered why! We all moan when Tom Kennedy checks back on the half way line and slides the ball back to the keeper instead of going on. Murphy turned that into an art form. He didn't care where he was - back to the keeper, best bet for him!

I'm not criticising though - you don't play that many games for one club if you are no good. Trouble is we tend to take players for granted a bit if they stay for years. They are not exciting any more and you want a new man in to shake things up. Well, thank goodness for men like Barry Murphy, Mick McCarthy and Frank Bartlett. They are part of the fabric of Barnsley Football Club, part of our history.

Really enjoyed watching all the clips - are there any more?

Just watching the interview with Sniffer about Rimmo and Ernest Dennis brings back some great memories. Many thanks.

Re: Thank you for posting that, mate X 2

I'd love to see and hear more about Sniffer's time at Oakwell. I know his second spell was not so good but his first coming was literally game-changing. This not so long ago England international forward was suddenly the player-manager of a struggling Fourth Division team but he shook us up immediately. I remember that first game against Chesterfield in the League Cup. He had never been known for his speed from a standing start but he made our players look like statues at the start of that game. This was a PROPER footballer, in a red shirt, number 8 on his back. We had never seen the like and it was the start of a wonderful adventure.

We all knew that this was just a stepping stone for him though. It's no good calling men like him and Danny Wilson "Judas" for leaving the club for a better job. We had full value from both these guys in their first spells as manager so I have no complaints. Allan Clarke scored some great goals for us and laid on plenty for others. But, more than that, he turned the club on its head and laid the foundations for his mate Norman Hunter to propel us into the Second Division with, arguably, the best Barnsley team there has ever been. Hard to say whether that class of 1981 would have done what Danny's group did in 1997 but I somehow think they would have done the same. In fact they did have a near miss.

As a postscript though, Clarke came back for a second go at it and didn't have anything like the same impact as before. Times were hard again for the club after that exciting burst at the end of the 70s and beginning of the 80s. We should all remember that when looking at this second spell of Danny Wilson's. I hope he does well but will not be surprised if he doesn't.

Glad you liked the clips, the older ones were captured on an old tape I came across and they are more from each person. The McMillan and Murphy are new ones. Interviewing Allan Clarke this month and some other ex players so I when i get chance I will add a few other clips up.

Thanks for watching them, nice to get some feedback.

Fantastic memories and insights from all of these Barnsley legends.
Be great if you could get all your footage and interviews on DVD maybe in aid of Barnsley Hospice etc.

I shall look forward to that very much - good work!

Back in the late 1980s I was editor of the Reds Review which was the monthly newsletter that went out to London Branch supporters. I got a Q&A interview from David Currie not long after he first signed which was a bit lame to be honest. I just thought it was nice to hear the thoughts of players answering questions directly rather than just reading the Chronicle pieces on them.

What you have done is MUCH better of course - I wish I could have done the same back then but the technology was quite different. I used the office photocopier and Gestetner machine to knock out the pages for the Review before stapling and sending off by post to all the members. I used to send one to Keith Lodge as well and he was often quite complimentary about what we were doing. The internet was a long way off at that point.

Re: Thank you for posting that, mate X 2

Was this a video interview with David Currie and if it was do you still have it. He is proving illusive to track down. Spoke with Keith last week he has agreed to be interviewed about the club as well and given he covered us for so many years he should have some good stories. Im also off to redo Allan Clarkes interview as the quality of this one doesn't really stand up.

Marlon - it is all being done to eventually make a dvd/program but to do it right the release date is 12 months away minimum.

That's a damning statement for a Barnsley fan given that he holds the club record for number of appearances.
A bit like saying I've no idea who Johnny Steele is.
