What's not to like about him?

FFS I've watched him whilst with Celtic and with Barnsley and TBH he has more skill and talent in his big toe than possibly the 11 who played today put together.

The lack of decent players to play along side might be the reason that some of you do not see the talent that guy has. I for one am very surprised he did not play.
Must surely be carrying an injury. Makes a change from carrying the team. :)

I can only speak personally. But for me, it's not anti-McCourt. He just hasn't got the work rate that we need. It's a divisive subject, but I always come back to the same question. How many goals and assists does he have, since he joined us?

Hmm OK and what about all the other player's workrates? Sadly lacking lately I'd say mate.

Get what you are saying though. McCourt maybe can be viewed as a bit of a luxury item but to me he on his game can be very dangerous. But he does need players around him to help out. Can't do it all on his own.

To me I'd have him in the team rather than being a spectator.

Beats me. He's had one TERRIBLE game. But he was marked by three players.

To make the most of him, I really think we need to be offering an alternative threat. Let's say Dale Jennings or Brek wotsit. It's easy to mark one player out of the game, but if we give them two headaches, then Paddy might get a bit more freedom. I think we just aren't using him well enough.
Yes, we may have to sacrifice defensively, but if we don't satrt winning some games, we're down anyway. Attack all the way to league 1 as far as I'm concerned.

I'd prefer to watch Paddy McCourt

But I'm in the minority for preferring & appreciating skill above work rate. Others don't rate him, which is fair enough. Each to their own. But today I saw us not only lose to a team from the Division below us, but the players whose main strength is their work rate created nothing, tackled ineffectively, regularly passed the ball to the opposition, gave no protection to the back four and contributed nothing.

That's absolutely brilliant. McCourt marked by 3 players. So what were our 2 free players doing when this happened? That is the whole point. Paddy takes 3 players out the game and leaving our players free to cause a bit of havok.

Also, if Paddy is as poor as some make out, why are the opposition putting three men on him every time he gets the ball? To keep him company I suppose.

He has unbelievable talent no doubt but for me he isnt up for our fight in this league. He strolls around the pitch whilst the rest are putting effort in. Fair enough effort dosent win football matches but neither does playing with 10 men thats how ineffective he can be. He just dosent do it for me.

I agree, when he gets the ball, everyone else stops. It's when he loses the ball, that i'm more interested in. And he almost always loses the ball. He's had me on my feet with some of the skill he's shown, but I just don't think it's enough right now. If he tore teams apart and scored or created goals, i'd accept the work rate. But he doesn't. Not saying that's his fault, but it's the way it is.

Great post and 100 percent accurate. It's a sad indictment of those who watch 'modern football' when they value chasing around aimlessly above talent. I just feel sorry for them to be honest.

First name on my team sheet is Paddy. Past caring about defending, we're fecking crap at it, bart time we had a go at teams. All this crap about work rate etc has got us nowhere, we've got to try summat else. Cheers, hic!
