Where do you think that crap you listen to all started? If you bad mouthed this to Metallica, they would sacrifice you to the devil and dance on your grave, naked. Then dig you up and give your bones to the dog. So think on....
Does that mean I have to like Robert Johnson or Howlin Wolf too? I can't see much connection between technical Death Metal and Waterloo Sunset.
This paved the way for guitar music. Ask your mate Lars Ulrich
Waterloo Sunset no, but I didn't post that tune. What's technical death metal anyway, when it's at home? Dave Davies pioneered the sound that morphed into many strands of hard rock. He modified a wireless radio and patched it between his guitar and amp to create a pre-amp and distortion, then he punched holes in the speaker with a pencil to make it rattle even more. Vox saw this and built an overdrive gain into the AC30. Death metal players use one chord shape, it's not technical at all - don't be deceived by speed and effects - And Dave started that as well, listen to the You Really Got Me/All Day & All of the Night riffs and you'll hear it. It's the same chord shape moved fret to fret, it's stupid simple but amazingly effective and in 64-65, it had never been done. That technique had more to do with Jerry Lee Lewis' piano, than it did anything else. There wouldn't be anything else like it til Johnny Ramone and James Williamson, but it was so influential, throw in what Jeff Beck and Page were doing with the Yardbirds and you have the first rumblings of heavy metal. That's just history. The death metal mob dumbed it down to two finger/two string chords, composed of the root and the fifth, which is as basic as you can get after progressing from one string. 'Powerchords' they call them, but they're not really powerful at all, it's just a drone even on record it just sounds fizzy and most of it is so effected they may as well not even bother with an amp, just D.I. it into the PA. You just have to trace the origins back through Sabbath and Motorhead and you'll find the same riffs. Satisfaction is another, 3 notes on one string!! And these lads were listening to th blues - Robert Johnson, Howling Wolf, Muddy Waters.... There you are, in a nutshell.
Not really, I know what death metal is, it's been around donkeys. I've just listened to a lot of records and know how genres developed. You asked for the connection, Tomfun beat me to it, basterd. I've played a lot of guitar too, so I can see what blokes are doing with it. It's one of the very few things I'm any good at.
Too much ale and being in a foul mood meant that I was a bit of a **** in this thread. Ray Davies does nowt for me but anyone who likes The Kinks or finds solace in their music after another **** performance from BFC - crack on. I will have to find my solace elsewhere.
No you weren't. Don't worry about it.. It was a pleasant distraction from the ****ing awful **** **** football !!
