because he's a 'luxury' and we can ill afford those when we're bottom of the table.

Paddy hasnt put us at the bottom of the table. In fact having him in the team has not cost us a single game all season. He's won us 6 points though.

He's hardly played, so he can't be blamed for us being bottom of the table. When he has played he's got us some points. All this talk of being a luxury player who we can't play as we are bottom is baffling to me. The only way to get away from the bottom is to play our best players, not to stick them in the players' lounge or on the bench.

Edit - Just spotted your "sarcasm" comment, schoolboy error on my part, but easy to make with a new poster!

Paddy's has had plenty of opportunities & has largely let us down. I want to see other creative players given a chance. I don't have much to base playing Jennings & Shea on but they deserve the same chance Paddy had. Once they get that then they can be judged.

I can name others I don't rate either. Wiseman, M'Voto, Kennedy, Perkins, Dawson & possibly Pederson would all be out if the door with Paddy if it was possible to bring in capable replacements.

Paddy has cost us games? He's largely failed?
Why, are you expecting him to score world class goals every week? You do realise he'd not be at BFC if he was that consistent?
A lot of question marks from me in this post, but certainly not a question mark on the contribution made thus far by Paddy, the key to at least 6 points this season, probably more. But yes, he was poor once as a sub so we must get rid and play Perkins, Dawson or another non-contributor.

Paddy has let us down no more than the rest of the squad this season. The likes of Perkins, Kennedy, Etuhu, Dawson, Ramage, and Pedersen have let us down a lot more. He's also contributed to at least 6 of our 17 points and hasnt cost us any goals!

I auto disagree with anyone who'd rather watch Jim O'Brien on the wing instead of Paddy McCourt

The one's questioning paddy could also name another 10 to justify their being here. Just because someone criticises paddy doesn't mean they are happy with everyone else, not sure why people keep thinking that. But when the topic is paddy is there any need to start naming other players?

That's completely ignoring lots of performances where it's been like playing with 10 men.

By letting us down I'm not talking about own goals or giving the ball to an opposing player on the edge of box that leads to a goal I'm talking about the times where he'd be better served sat with the academy lads in the West Stand as he's contributed nothing towards many games.

If you think Paddy has only been poor 'once as a sub' you must have some seriously low standards.

I've got no idea why you'd mention replacing McCourt with Dawson or Perkins. Why would anyone want to see limited central midfielders play as an attacking midfielder or out wide?

I don't expect world class performances every week. I expect him to at least deliver in more than 1 every 5 or 6 games considering he offers little else to the team other than when he's got the ball at his feet.

Paddy reminds me of the Celtic lads who joined Boro under Strachan a few years back. They'd had it that easy for so many years up in Scotland relying on talent alone that when they came up against teams that actually showed some resistance they didn't know what to do.

Ignore me Ponty. I'm just sick of watching gash, and Paddy occasionally lifts the gloom.
I've never really fancied Pedersen, prefer Dagnall, but folk think am barmy. I also would rather watch McNulty, RNL and Digby. Others disagree. The *******s.

Indeed it is, Tom. And one I won't be partaking in again for a while. Getting a bit repetitive.
Let's debate the merits of Ian Holloway going to Millwall or sumat.

I wonder how many of other midfielders we have will ever play in the champions League or score a full international goal.

Brek Shea cost Stoke £2.5 million and he looked an ok player not particularly better than McCourt. I'm unsure where this mythical creative midfielder will come from who will track back and yet still be creative yet want to come to Barnsley and cost us less than Brek Shea will come from. Jennings I have hopes for him but has clearly been less use to us thus far than McCourt. Tompole great sub but again not particularly one for tackling back or starting again. RNL deserves a run in the team but again unproven.

paddy has been poor in a couple of games and majestic in a few games he blows hot and cold. Any creative player we can attract will be the same. Perkins in about 10 times more. Dawson in more. Kelvin in every game he's played. Mellis has also played poorly more often than McCourt though admittedly not since being moved Ito his real position.

McCourt has been the only thing worth paying your ticket money on this season. It's been cold comfort but still comfort.

Hope you don't mind me joining in. I've registered as I came here to find out the story about McCourt. Apparently our players and coaching staff were very impressed by him against us. I would expect some form of approach if he is only at Barnsley for the short term. He ripped us a new one in the first half in the middle of a 3 man midfield. We won the game as we put two players on him in the second and the rest of the midfield didn't have the ability to do much with the extra space after we pressed higher up the field. He doesn't seem like a player who can play with his back to goal though, which would rule him playing well behind a front man and too easily marked out of the game. Just my thoughts.

Would be a great signing for you. Playing in a midfield with decent players around him he would shine. He struggles in our midfield because as you said we don't have the players who can exploit either the space he creates or that is created by the opposition double marking him.
