Having watches there two tests against India I don't think England are miles behind SA and remember they are going to go through exactly the same thing soon that England are and Australia have 2/3 times in the last 7/8 years and will again soon. Ageing players. Look at theres and Australia team.
A few have played well so far haven't they. Stokes Bairstow Root finn have all done well for England at some stage. Vaughan mentions Mills and Robson. Well one or two have mentioned him on here. Player that had the oppotunity to play for both England and Australia, he chooses England but Aussies want him
They were supposed to be a TEAM. They lost every match, therefore they were utterly useless. No-one deserves any credit, they were the Barnsley FC of the international cricket scene. They never even got close to making the Australians worry. Most of their batsmen could have played a ukulele while batting.
Sorry Phil but I have to ask if you have just watched the same Ashes series as me? KP played well is about as accurate as saying that Barnsley are shooting up the league.
1) Again, potentially they are good but its not gauranteed that they will be a long term success no matter how many times you repeat it 2) As already stated in this thread you have slaughtered vaughan at every opportunity because he doesnt share your views but now conveniently quote him because it suits you
Not quite sure what that means ("curved"?) but if you think he did OK in this series I don't know what to say. Honestly I don't. Gave his wicket away far too cheaply time after time, when England really needed the self-proclaimed "one of the best batsmen in the world" to hang in there. He was awful.
I slated some of the things he said and rightfully so. hanging Joe Root out like he did on National Radio isn't good. If hes got a problem with Root's technique then surely he goes to speak to Joe himself. Vaughan wasn't great as a Captain either according to non other than Englands James Anderson. He only won half of is tests as captain. That isn't a great record. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/cr...-England-captain-I-felt-ease-playing-him.html
For anyone interested the Verdicts on in 10 minutes. Should be interesting willis, Butcher and Trescothick will be reviewing the series and I would imagine they will be talking for the future. Also going to say there teams for the first team against SL. Be very interesting to hear the thoughts of Butcher and Trescothick
Be sure to post on here the bits you agree with and ignore the rest. Remember what I said in the opening post.
Hemsy - here are my thoughts 1.Cook - Wimp as a captain , needs taking off him , talented and will come back 4/10 2.Carberry - Not sure , think there is more to come from him , great fielder 5/10 3.Root - Not sure , at the moment a walking wicket outside the off stump , benefit of the doubt for him , will come good over time 4.5/10 4.KP- Brain dead - cannot hack it against top balling , will murder average (Graham Hick 2) let him go to IPL 4/10 5.Bell- biggest surprise , thought he would have stood up to the onslaught , prospective captain 5/10 6.Prior - Form gone , will come back stronger 5/10 7.Bairstow - Bowl straight to him and he will be yours , cannot defend , will hit avarage bowling attacks all over 4.5/10 8.Broad - Guts , determination , captain ? not sure , could be good , will stand up to them 7/10 9.Stokes - Younger version of Broad , shining light 8/10 10.Anderson - Yearns for the green English tracks , no good in auss 6.5/10 11.Bresnan - Move over for Stokes 5/10 12.Monty - Had his time 4/10 13.Borthwick- Maybe one for the future 4/10 14.Finn - Crapped on in my opinion 15.Rankin - Not sure , could be a good opening spear
I agree with you almost entirely - although I feel you are a little bit generous to Anderson, who I thought was pedestrian (perhaps over-worked though?). This is having watched almost every ball of the series (excluding the times when I went to bed in disgust). I would keep Carberry in the Test side for now, but youth is hardly on his side. Cook has to be relieved of the captaincy - he was clueless at times, particularly with the field placements, and he needs to get his batting back for his own and the team's good.
I agree ref Anderson - probably a 5.5 , a lot rested on his shoulders , Carberry seemed to have some balls , which cannot be said for the majority
Really. They need to show some guts and do something to help the team and help Cook, who is clearly out of his depth. Also, is that the same "England Management" that has showered itself in glory over the past month or so with its decisions / selections? The same ones who were happy to be out on the field during the presentation of the Ashes trophy in the summer but were conspicuous by their absence when Australia were presented with it the other day? Very poor show.
The higher managements changed Calgary. The head of the ECB's called james whitaker. His first game was the last test. They've only got one selector so all that will change too. Flower says hes already spoke to JW and he will stay on and they will not change Cook. Wouldn't be surprised to see the name Kevin Petersen Vice Captain from what these are saying on the Verdict. MT says if Cook, KP or Bell went back to country cricket for a full season they would be the leading run scorers easily
