Re: Patrick Cryne can't win Sums up exactly how I feel. The man simply is a Barnsley legend. Name one single player or manager who single handily saved our club from extinction? I can think of many wonderful players who have helped us win promotions, or entertain us. But without this man we wouldn't be able to watch and support our team. Unfortunately, as with all walks of life, 99% of people understand this and are thankful to PC. But the ill informed and irrational 1% post 99% of the spurious criticism.
Well hes put in £100 million into a club which, frankly, was on its a**e, and got them into the Premier League in something like 2 years. He's made mistakes though in his running of the club. So, do you support him for saving Cardiff and defend him whatever, or do you support him for saving Cardiff but criticise him for some of his decisions as the owner? Or even still like some Cardiff fans, do you agitate for his total removal from the club? Now I dont see aynone on here asking for option 3, but I do think he can and should be criticised for some of his decisions. Seems like some on here want to shutdown any debate on Cryne's running of our club based on the fact he's put his money in it. So, yes, I would say there's a common thread running between the two situations.
I beg to differ One has pumped his money into a club, without caring one jot of the club's history, tradition & the fans' opinions, he moves out one professional from his position (a man personally selected by the manager as part of his backroom staff) and replaced him with a family friend who has no experience whatsoever of the duties required and can't even obtain a work permit. The other has been a fan of the club all his life, saved the club in 2003 when it had been in administration for nearly a year without the previous owner being capable of doing so. He brought in various individuals to run the club and left them to it, whilst at the same time continuing to put his hand in his pocket to purchase players that the manager at the time had targeted and pay their salaries. Eventually, when ill health & a court case took up more & more of his time, the club was left to become self financing. I'm absolutely gobsmacked you honestly believe Patrick Cryne is no different to Tan at Cardiff.
Re: Patrick Cryne can't win This is exactly the thing to be grateful for!! Without Cryne the club would have gone somewhere.....out of existence.
Re: Patrick Cryne can't win Scenario... Knock at the BFC office door.. Outside is Rizzo with a case stuffed with 100 million quid. Side of him is an ex Barnsley miner who got lucky on the euro millions with 50 million quid. who would you welcome in?
But unfortunately we didn't have no one knocking on the door with 100 million quid and Patrick is a businessman and not a ex miner, I feel more comfortable with a Barnsley supporting businessman in charge of the club than someone who couldn't careless and just see's it as some play thing,
That makes me feel better bossman, cos if i won 150 million on the euro millions i could still sit in the east stand with nobody wanting me to put my hand in my pocket cos i'm not a business man.
Re: Patrick Cryne can't win Don't be stupid, of course I don't. Scenario's change, that's a fact. All I know is previously who were the candidates wanting the club? Sean Lewis and Pete Doyle, neither of which had any money or the clubs best interests at heart. Cryne had both. Cryne is not a football man, but a football fan. He always wanted someone in to run the club on a day to day basis as that was not his forté and how he earned his money. I've recently read Simon Jordan's autobiography, and that was one hell of an insight into a guy like Cryne who made his fortune elsewhere, supported the club, and wanted to help out his club. I never really liked SJ but having read that my opinion has changed massively and now I have huge respect for the bloke. I urge any fan of footballing autobiographies to read that.
It's the easiest thing in the world To hypothetically spend some else's money and claim you could make a better job of it.
Why are we comparing Cryne and Tan? Tan is just a nutcase who thought he'd invest in Cardiff and change all the badge/shirt etc and knows nothing about football Cryne is nothing like that and never will be. I know who I'd rather have as owner
Re: Patrick Cryne can't win What I'm saying is it's not for or against Cryne as it's being made out to be. I'm both grateful and critical. IF Danny gets backed with what he wants to get us out of this mess then great
Re: Patrick Cryne can't win So if Danny doesn't get backed then Cryne deserves to be criticised? Thinking nothing about PC's financial situation or other various circumstances? It's not always black & white. Seriously, I suggest you read Simon Jordan's autobiography - i'm sure it'll give you a huge insight into what running a football club is all about. Certainly opened my eyes since reading it.
Don't we all make wrong decisions at times? Don't think he should be criticised for the odd mistake. The good he has done for the club vastly outweighs the bad. IMO of course.
Re: Patrick Cryne can't win Did I say that? If Wilson gets backed then Cryne deserves credit for that and will get it from me. As I said before why is it we have to be either grateful and never criticise or criticise and are automatically ill informed and ungrateful.
Re: Patrick Cryne can't win Ha we are probably gonna have to end this debate pal because I don't see how relevant any of this is, and is getting us nowhere. IMO Cryne has maybe made slight errors of judgement, but as Ponty72 says above the good massively outweighs these hundred-fold.
Your right, too many start blaming Cryne and the managers. They are both committed to the club and its the players that need a kick up the a@ rse
