Neither. Flitcroft was the man behind both the successful run last season and the collapse this. Micky offered support. Last season we were successful due to Flicker being such a fantastic motivator. He got the players up for it better than any manager we've had before. Micky supported him. Motivated him, so he could motivate the players. Gave him belief, so he could give that belief to the players. Things are hard on your own, they're much easier with a mate. An assistant manger doesn't tell the manager what to do, he offers advice, but his most important role is to support the manager's decisions, to help put his ideas in to practice. What we found out this year, is that although Flicker is a great motivator, he's not the greatest tactician. Motivation will only go so far for so long. If you're not up to it, you will be found out. Mickey still gave Flicker the same support and the same encouragement, he continued to help Flicker put the plans in place, it's just the plans weren't right, so however much encouragement Mickey could offer, it wasn't going to work. Mickey Mellon's role never changed. He supported the manager, offered advice, but at no point did he make the decisions. That support was fundamental last year when we stayed up due to hard work and belief. But it wasn't fundamental to our downfall, it's just that Flicker wasn't quite good enough. Mickey will offer the same support to Danny and if Danny's plans are good ones, like they have been many times in the past, then our assistant manager will help put them in to place.
I would think Danny would give him a little push in that direction, if MM is offered the job at Kidderminster.
FFS Jay... ... tha writing some sense today. Unfortunately most of it will pass over the heads of a lot on here (or they'll simply not read it all 'cos "there's lots of words - it makes my head hurt").
Start? Were you not on here Saturday night? We had a few morons (no apologies for using the word) referring to him as Judas (19 days it took, earlier than I anticipated) and blaming him for having to choose ****, shitty or shitter in central defence/midfield.
Re: FFS Jay... I'd have 30,000 posts were it not for Jay, who usually sums up my own thoughts on most subjects only in a more interesting and less cnutish manner.
I'm with you on this one. Easy target though; Danny hasn't turned things around instantly so clearly MM is still picking the team and in charge of tactics and formations because Danny isn't ready.
That's not necessarily so. IMO Mellon undoubtedly had an impact when he first came in, or was our upturn in form from that moment merely coincidence? Could it be that as flicker got his feet under the table that Mellon's role was diminished? The demanding nature of flicker in the summer could imply that. Not saying it's fact but it could be. No point arguing about it anyway, we don't know the facts. You have your opinion, I have mine, both based on no more than conjecture.
From the little I have heard DF was like a dog with two dongles this year. Last year he needed advice, this year he thought he was above those who gave him the advice to begin with.
