Tell you what, you'd be hard pressed to beat the view from the road between Grenoside and Wortley (woodhead Rd). It was crystal clear when I headed up ther this morning. Basically, it's pretty high up, and you get panoramic views to the NE, east and SE. So basically it takes in Barnsley, heading towards Wakefield, Pontefract, (can see all the Power stations - ferry bridge, Drax etc,) then over towards Donny, Scunny, and down the other way looking over Rotherham, towards Worksop, Newark etc. It's really worth a trip out on a clear day. If you're into your Geography, views, and scenery, it's quite stunning. Binoculars and a map, recommended.
Yep. Was thinking that. It's been clear here all day, so might take a drive up there. What time is it visible?
I shoot up wortley every other sunday, and the view is looking straight over the moors,as you say its fantastic, well worth getting up for.
I think the view over Stainborough and the Worsbough area from Locke Park/ Rob Royd area takes some beating, but the area around Wortley is up there.
Funnily enough, that is my favourite view in the Barnsley area... Looking over towards Wentworth castle.
