Sad really. As my old dad used to say "a rumour can be half way round the world before the truth has got its boots on"

That was a good article, although not good in what he had to go through. I like that he tells the truth about a couple of well known TV faces, but I wouldn't expect them to respond. This also goes to highlight why we're a long way off current players coming out. As long as there are characters like John Terry in the game it will take a very brave man to be the first.

That's another nail in the coffin of football for me.
I am actually beginning to loathe alot more about football, or more specifically footballers.

What I find ironic, is that Robbie Savage, one of the main culprits, could easily be the same sort of target for that kind of abuse. Maybe he is, I don't know, but I find it really distasteful.

The worst thing about it is that even now, if I had a gay son, who played football, I'd be telling them to keep it quiet, just for their own protection. We haven't moved on enough.

Employed by the BBC as is Robbie Fowler, I guess they never read this article back in 2007.

Sad that we're all saying how good a piece that is, when it shouldn't have to be. Meanwhile will the BBC still be using the services of Savage and Fowler on their football programmes, because surely someone will bring this back to their attention.

    Really good article.

I wonder if anyone at the BBC has read it. Savage & Fowler shouldn't be on the telly / radio unless they come up with on air apologies.

There's an old saying which goes 'Ignorance is bliss'. Well all I can say there appears to be a lot of happy footballers. I'd include their sycophantic apologists with them as well.

What an awful article. No one should have to go though that. Exactly the reasons why no gay footballer will be the first playing professional to come out.

Thanks for your fascinating insight, although it probably says more about you than the article itself.

Before anyone reads on with my post, I make it clear I "do not give a monkeys" whether anyone is gay or not......anywhere in society.......crack on people.

Regarding this article, what I can't get my head around, is that Le Saux was (probably still is) married with children......his fellow footballers knew that.

They knew he wasn't gay, and those players involved in the article were exploiting a very clear and open weakness in his character.

This type of behaviour happens everyday in society.......it's called pi55 taking.

In a male dominanted sport like football, you will always get this behaviour.

Perkins gets it for being a blond midget (or is it cos he's sh!te), Ian Dowie got it for being one helluva ugly bloke, Bekham gets it for marrying a Spice Girl, Robbie Savage got it for being a pony tailed pr!ck, Paddy Kenny got it for issues with his wife, Mel Sterland got it for being a fat pig........the list is endless.

Pasta --- What weakness are you referring to? Are you blaming the victim here for having a 'weakness in his character?'

No idea. Definitely not at work, though. Honest.

Great piece. Hope Micky Finn points his employers in the direction of this piece considering where Fowler and Savage are plying their trade nowadays. They're ***** at the best of times, but *****, hypocritical, liars and homophobes is unforgiveable.

Read paragraph 8 of the article.

Le Saux admits he should have handled the initial issue much better than he did. He admits to being an easy target. That's how this whole thing started, and clearly ballooned almost out of control.

    That's what I'm referring to.

    Great point pasta

Thing I don't get is if he knew he wasn't gay and had a family why did it bother him .

How do you think referees cope with been called cheats, ****ers etc and they paid a lot less than footballers.

I know 3 professional referees very well and they are on under 70k a year and 2 out of 3 have received death threats on the last 3 years
