http://www.theguardian.com/sport/2014/jan/10/yorkshire-england-ashes-root-bairstow They have a big point. Bairstows come in to team last twice without much cricket at all. He played two games for Lions over in Australia. Both against really poor teams.
What's new? Rashid, Dawson, Bairstow, the list goes on. Bairstow needs a lot more cricket and will possibly have regressed by the time the season comes around, Bresnan should never have been picked and dropping Root for the last test was a joke.
It's shocking with Bairstow. He goes, think hes got a chance at 6. Then doesn't play for weeks apart from playing a game at a Uni ground. In the summer he went around with One day team. Didn't get picked but wasn't released to play with Yorkshire. Got picked in Ashes. Disagree with Bresnan. Think hes done a great job. Against India last time he was brilliant. Root needs to be given the 7 tests over the summer to open. Moxons got a point. Lets hope there all avadible for first game of county championship and can show how good they are.
Bresnan is neither good enough with bat or ball, Stokes has shown what an all-rounder should be. Bresnan will go back to being an honest county toiler (and there's no shame in that). He can't always play in sub-contintental environments that allow him to reverse swing. Root should open, but not with Cook. He's Cook's successor, but not a complimentary player to him. Far too alike in style, playing both allows bowlers into a rhythm of purely bowling good/full and waiting while one of them is caught not playing forward (or back) to a well pitched delivery. Not that you'll agree with any of this...
Sorry but I do disagree massively. Hes been really good for England.. Okay hes not played as many test but hes played enough to compare at least. Bresnan averages 30 plus with the bat and takes 3 wickets plus a game at 32 Flintoff averages less that 3 wickets per game at nearly 33. He also averaged nearly 32 with bat only. I think different again. Cook and Root to open together. Both can score at a decent rate. Give them the summer against SL and India and we'll see.
England's treatment of Bairstow over the last two years has been shameful. They pick him in squads for both forms of the game and don't play him and thus he plays no cricket. Thus when he is picked he hasn't had any game time and doesn't perform. It's not rocket science, give the lad some cricket and I'm sure he'll come good.
Barstow needs to get back to Yorkshire and gets some runs as well as perfecting his wicket keeping. He's a good prospect that needs to play regularly for a year or so continually to hone his skills. Root will open with cook I've no doubt but again he's far from the finished article and could go either way if just thrown in but he's got a good temperament and I hope he excels over the next few years. As much as it pains me to say it I think bresnan will struggle to get in now with stokes doing well with bat and ball and to me a far better option now than bresnan looking forward.
Bresnan doesn't average anywhere near "30-plus" with the bat in any form of the game, he's the epitomy of average. What's Flintoff got to do with anything? Kaliis? Sobers? There's some bloke called Botham as well. I appreciate you don't recognise any one over 30 as good.
Bairstow cannot cut it at that level Poor if non existant defence Will score heaps in county game but so did grsham hick
When he's in good form he's a good player, issue is he plays across the line with too much bottom hand. He needs to play a straighter.
