Millions. As far as rabbits are concerned, they're not even a native species in this country. For someone who works in this field, your position doesn't take that in to account. Sorry if that sounds harsh, but please put forward a coherent argument on the subject, not some sentimental garbage. You're a learned man, you know about this, your opinion is worth more than any of ours, address the issue properly or not at all. I know for a fact that you don't think raising animals in battery farming conditions is a good thing. I know that you care about the welfare of animals. But I also know that you believe human beings need to eat. And I know that you could put forward solutions to this conundrum that would suit all parties, that would protect the welfare of animals without the need for intensive farming, without the need for cruelty, but also without the need to condemn people who believe what they're doing is right. We're not all thickos on here Nudger, don't just shout us down and make us out to be the wrong uns, tell us what your studies have taught you and tell us why you believe that a few people taking a bountiful supply of rabbits or pigeons is worse that breeding sickly, factory farmed chickens.

My passion is fly fishing........and if I am lucky enough (even good enough) to catch a river wild brown trout, then I'm releasing "this beauty" back into its habitat.

If I'm fishing a closed stock water, then I'm taking my catch. Yep, we'll eat it, bloody lovely, healthy. I've paid for it......

There is a big difference between catching natural fish (happily returned with a smile on your face) and catching farmed fish (high turnover of fish is key to health).

Both methods are great, but so different.

I too struggled to watch the reds during the strike as like everybody else I was struggling for cash.
I ad a young family at the time and a mortgage, fortunately my mortgage was with Barnsley Council and they told me t forget it and they would just add the arrears on at the end with no extra costs which was a great relief.
I also struggled with bills and the electric hardly ever went on in our house during the strike however being a miner we had solid fuel central heating and thats one thing I had control over. I could at least go out and get something to burn at no financial cost unlike the legacy that Thatcher as left us with.
I can remember Brian Clough on a chat show slating the government and the police for stopping the miners picketing and also Jack Charlton was talking on a chat show about how he was supporting the miners at the Red Lion (Button Mill) whilst he was manager at wendy.
Was talking to some lads at Orgreave and the conversation turned to football bearing in mind this was while bricks were whizzing over our heads and the police charging at us there must have been a supporter from every club in north of England and Scotland in the group around us Sunderland,Tarn, rotherham,Wendy Motherwell,Newcastle and loads more who I can't think on. all on a picket line all together brothers in struggle fighting the same cause but still fiercely defending our respective teams heritage and worth.

Remember some great speakers in Eastgate car park on Sunday morning rallies.
    McGahey and Bickerstaff in particular.
Scargill was everywhere-you couldn't open a cupboard in Barnsley without Arthur popping out.
I lived on Pitt street at the time. Remember endlessly being stopped by police in town centre on an evening .
There was regular fighting with police on wellington street and peel square on week ends.
South Yorkshire was on lockdown as we tried to get to picket lines in Grimey. Coppers on every main road at 4 am in the morning turning people back.
The memories arnt good ones. The town was properly on its ar*e and being hammered from all quarters.
I hated stuff like Brassed Off which tried to romanticise what was an awful time for us all.

The club as I remember did nowt. Wouldn't even allow collections. There was a push for them to reduce prices for strikers but this was ignored. Just one game would have done.
I think they lost a lot of support with their attitude during the strike...

All that was down to the chairman at that time, Geoff Buckle, an unashamed tory supporter, his feeble excuse at the time was that anything that helped the strikers would be a political act and that football clubs shouod not get involved in politics. Ended up costing the club big time.

depends where you are fishing pasta, some areas have good stocks of wild fish, some don't,common sense needs to be shown, line caught wild trout and salmon fetch good money and put a far bigger smile on my face than any stocky and for me taste far better, but like I say it all depends where you are fishing,i wouldn't eat a trout out of the dearne or dove they taste like a bag of compost, but one running in from the sea on the esk or up Scotland are ,as you say, bloody lovely, especially after being smoked:D

Good ole country boy..........out helping wealthy farmers because he loves to kill wildlife !!!
I've nothing against killing wild animals if those animals become a pest, which is nearly always caused by humans changing the environment.
However, if someone kills wildlife for the sake of killing, which is usually the case of these John Wayne cowboys then they have something seriously wrong with them.
They are not killing for food - because the supermarket is full of the stuff..........they are killing because they like to feel the power over another living animal.
psychological fact - a person who is cruel to animals can easily become cruel to humans

I've much experience of dealing with 'good ole country boys'..............trying to look hard with 12 bore under their arms looking for something they can harm or torture.
Like I said.........not doing it because they want something to eat........doing it for the feeling of power and the pleasure of seeing another animal suffer.

And for all others out there e.g. Jay etc.........who support these thick b@stards - then they are being as fooooking thick as what these cowboys are.
    Think FFS !!!
