Did Scargill wisely bury NUM-headed funds during the receivership of the Union's assets, or has he simply feathered his own nest? Not sure I was any wiser after this programme. In fairness, Dan Johnson did say many questions remain unanswered (NSS!). I do wonder how high Scargill's stock is with former miners these days? Clearly not very high with Sir Kevin of Maltby! One odd thing: as Johnson was walking with Roger Windsor and doing a voice-over about Windsor's relocation to France, they were actually walking by the side of Hereford Cathedral (which, dating from Norman times, is a bit French-looking, I suppose!). Interesting.
Every now and again they try o implement Scargill into some scandal or another just the fact that they keep trying and not succeeding tells me a lot. The richest brightest brainiest in the country have tried to pin somethig on him since 1972 and failed. I'm neither a lover or hater of Scargill tbh but the fact they can't pin anything on him with all the resources of the state and the back stabbing they have done and have only succeeded in blackening his name says it all
Exactly Marlon - given the power of the state I'm amazed nothing has been pinned on Mr Scargill - to me this means one of three things - (1) he (or his legal team) are cleverer than that the entire state can muster (2) there is simply nothing to discredit him with (get to stick in a court of law) or (3) the state thinks that the press have discredited him enough (throw enough mud and some of it will stick)
Think a mixture of all three is likely tbh but IMO without the european /human rights law the powers that be would have stuck something on him long before now.
like you say marlon they've tried for years and failed and although the programme mentioned it,the smear in 1990 was won hands down by scargill and looked what happened to Maxwell after that. its no coincidence that this programme came out a week after thatcher and her crew were shown as liars, not just for the hitlist but also for ripping us off from our own pension fund.
How have they ripped us off with our pension dek ? I thought the agreement was that they guaranteed the scheme and took 50% of future profits ? Option two let schem run stand alone
I've read an article on a welsh mining forum saying it was illegal,i'll try and paste it. http://www.welshcoalmines.co.uk/forum/read.php?14,55172 see what you think
No it was agreed by all trustees 100% Nothing wrong in it Other than all governments have profited from it over the last twenty years @ £5b
I think they are reckoning on the tories used our own pension fund to pay us our redundancy payments. I also heard that our VWF was paid for the same way.
I had all mine transferred to superan in nov 1993.the industry was short of deputies and I'd had my tickets since 1986 so signed over. which pit did you work at,didnt know you were an ex miner mate.
all the sparkys I know got paid out,get in for it. I worked up Selby at stillingrad.shithole, most untidy pit I ever worked at.
