I don't know how much money the club gets out of this, but surely more people would be willing to buy a ticket if they made it easier to find out what the actual number is. Unless you listen intently throughout half time you haven't got a chance, the number is sometimes on the website a week later but by then I've forgot about it. I've bought tickets the odd time this season but I'm put off by the fact that actually finding out the number is a pain in the backside - can't our media team put it on facebook/twitter immediately? Wouldn't surprise me if half of the prizes are unclaimed - maybe this is why they are reluctant to publicise it too much!
Think they would get more revenue out if it if they had more than 1 prize. Maybe 50% takings 1st game worn shirt from a player of your choice 2nd and 2 tickets to a home game 3rd. Know its a different ball game but I go to the ice hockey and the 50/50 draw there ranges from a prize of £800 when it's at ice sheffield (1500 attendance) to £1700/£3000 at the arena depending of opposition.
I've never done it as I don't have a clue how to find out the number (I can never understand what they say at half time, and don't they call out 2 numbers? What is the other one for?), or claim the prize.
Its rubbish really, totally crap marketing and basically a crap competition. By all means have one good prize that everybody wants to win ,but have more smaller ones that make people think they have a chance and then have a certain way for everybody to check if they have actually won. Do that and push the benefits to the club from it and I think sales would go up a fair bit.
Thought it was the 50/50 draw that is also called Half Time Draw. As in 50% is prize money and 50% to club. Club would also have to pay the sellers their fee. The centenary draw is drawn at least the day before. If you've won it, the club gets in touch with you. So not much point listening out for it on the day hoping that it's yours. I won the centenary a few years ago (split between 4 of us). I spooked the women next to me at half time, by predicting the winning centenary number a few minutes before it was announced. Then I let her know that it was my number and the club had phoned me the day before. I've also won the half time draw a couple of years ago. It was when England u21's were playing. It was only about £100 due to low crowd / mid-week and not many tickets sold. i remember collecting the money and all the notes were filthy and stunk of cig smoke.
I love it!! Followed by 'pound a go'. Even my mates were laughing after a few times of hearing it (it was their first ever Barnsley match).
I think the woman that shouts HAAAALFFFF TIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIMEEEEEEEEEEE DRRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWW bottom end of the Ponte should be our new pitchside announcer should he ever leave.
My mum won the half time draw a few years ago, £350ish, the way she celebrated you'd have thought she'd won the lottery
Do you think they've been reading this? They definitely said it clearer today, and repeated it a few times too.
