Jennings was useless when he first came to us. Probably because he was unfit. But for me he's only had 1 good game for us and that was yesterday. So I don't see how you've come to the conclusion that he's more creative than mellis.
After reading this thread I realise I'm a bigger freak than I first thought! I like, rate, appreciate & enjoy the skills of Jacob Mellis, Paddy McCourt, Tomasz Cywka, Dale Jennings & RNL.
He'd cost around 1.5 mil I'd assume and that's minimum. Signed for Leicester when they where spending big, then went to Hull who where buying with parachute money, who I presume would have increased his pay.
Depends on who else is available aand what formation. We have got some decent options now, especially if Bobby is playing DM. Maybe play 3 in the middle. Not everyone is gonna play every week. My point about Mellis was more play him in central rather than wide, he has bags of potential and I think people forget how young he is. He has done the team job under DW too.
A few months ago when we were linked with Fryatt and Billy Sharp Ben Mansford said there wages wouldn't be a problem.
would billy sharp be such a bad shout? can't see him getting back in the southampton set up any time soon?

Expensive. Didn't want to come last time. Not exactly pulled up any trees either on loan at Forest last year 10 goals in 39 appearances or this year at Reading 2 in 10. Though I suppose we could reinvigorate his career and him help us out of the *****. Difficult one to call.
The problem with all 3 of Mellis, McCourt & Cwyka is none of them seem to have a good 90 minutes in them. Mellis drifts in & out of games. Cwyka only seems to deliver off the bench & McCourt delivers once a blue moon. They're all talented enough but I can't see any of them been regular starters under Wilson unless we get a lot of injuries. Can see Jennings, Lawrence & Shea occupying the 3 spots behind O'Grady for the rest of the season once Lawrence is up to speed. I really like Mellis & think there's a quality player there & he's young so has more room for development than McCourt & Cwyka but Wilson will probably go for someone he can trust more in Lawrence. I thought that was Kennedy's job trouble is he had a good game yesterday so we have to find someone else to be crap personally I will be disappointed if we sell him unless someone offers silly money of course
I'd put his good game ratio at one in 3 or 4. Flatters to deceive. He's got technique and skill but most games pass him by. If you look at Brighton away: that's what he can do which is guile and link up play and finishing. Trouble is he does this so rarely. Wouldn't be too fussed if he went but would be happy for him to stay to see if Danny can get more out of him
Problem is, we offered to pay so much if sharps wages, Southampton wanted the full amount. No way can a club where 9500 fans came through the turnstiles on a Saturday afford 22,000 a week. We don't want admin. I rate Mellis, end of. Talented player but some would probably prefer Dawson in his place.
he was our worst performer on satdy IMO (everyone else was a 7 or 8/10 mind) surely the rose tinted specs didn't cover that up?
Very harsh to score Mellis less than 7 out of 10. You either appreciate the flashy-er sort of player or you don't I suppose.
mellis put more effort in on Saturday than he has done for a long time, both in closing players down and in his distribution.
Danny has given him the starts since he took over, so must see the potential. He gave all the players a few games, but now needs to ring changes. There is a lot of dross that wouldn't raise a transfer fee. All depends who is coming in to replace him. I'm going to trust Danny. Very early days but his additions to the squad have been a lot better than what has gone out.
