If he'd concentrated on playing football rather than kicking lumps out of the opposition, he might have been a good player. Right dirty bleeder. Cracking goal and performance in that cup victory at Leicester though. What a game that was.

"Lowndes on the wing doing his thing" which was usually slyly booting the full back. I sorta like Steve always good for a laugh or random cracking performance. Aye that was a great game we could do with one of those now win or lose just getting the passion back. I feel after last years heroics we've lost it again.

I seem to remember we sold a player on a Thursday and Lowndes was brought in late Friday to soften the blow....but cant for the life of me think who it was.

Signed 22 August 1986 we flogged Gordon Owen in May that year and Gray not til a year later so not sure who we sold.

22 goals in 120 odd games pretty much better than anyone since we got promoted but he was never a stand out in those days. Shows how difficult it is for us to attract and retain good players in the premiershit era.

This is worth a watch as we're talking about him. Gordon Owen hat-trick as we hammer champions elect Oxford 3-0. I hadn't realised it was John Aldridge whose penalty was saved in that game. Maybe he had that on his mind when he spooned that penalty in to The Ponty all those years later while playing for Tranmere. Oxford stuffed us 4-0 at their place just a month later on the last day of the season, a victory they needed to win the league.

Me too. When did we last see something like that? When Hignett was here I guess. Shea looks like he has the potential to do it though.

It is a fact of the modern British game, every player has one role, the widemen , cross the ball, the strikers supposedly get in the box, the midfielders are either attacking midfielders or defensive midfielders, it bugs me that it is accepted that they dont do both, or that they cannot kick the ball with both feet and the fullbacks dont have to tackle anymore, just be able to run fast !!

    Football really is **** !!!
