... "The third series of Sherlock has become the most-watched drama run in over a decade, the BBC has said. " Should that not tell the networks something?? The constant 'dumbing-down' of TV has left a significant section of the public who like intelligently written, well acted drama where you do have to concentrate a bit rather than watching 'slack-jawed' with a glazed expression starved of entertainment. I am not saying 'Sherlock is a 'high brow' classic but in amongst the action/spectacle there is an element of intelligent humour, dialogue and well defined characterisation, not to mention the fine tuned interaction between the two main characters. Why cannot we have more. Merlin, The 3 Ms have their place I suppose but it is more suited to a younger audience or a scheduling slot suitable for family viewing. I suggest 9pm on a Sunday night is not it.
It's reight. Being Human was BBC Three's biggest ever success with more viewers during that hour than owt on BBC One or Two. They still axed it. To make more room for 'Pissheads Making Arses Of Themselves In Random Spanish Sea Resort'.
Loved Being Human myself but to be fair the main characters had all left and if did seem to run out of steam a bit. Looking forward to my Mad Fat Diary returning best programme I've seen in ages shame C4 got it so I have to fast forward the adverts.
I loved the main characters, but for me, the second trio were just as good at acting and equally as interesting. In fact, I thought Hal and Tom in particular were better characters than Mitchell and George. But I suppose it was getting tired in some ways. But then, the channel did say it was axed to 'make way for fresh drama of the same ilk'. It's been a year and I'm still waiting for that fresh BBC Three drama of the same quality.
try BBC iPlayer for 'Hinterland' its on BBC Wales just now, set in mid Wales a crime drama. I do not normally like this genre, but this is very good. Recommend it.
Not certain I agree. Yes, there's loads of utter *****, but there's also stuff like Sherlock, Luther, any drama or comedy with Olivia Colman in it (which is half the schedule), The Hour, Scott and Bailey, Utopia, Top of the Lake, The Fall, Peaky Blinders, Ripper Street, Southcliffe, Anything with Charlie Brooker presenting, The Wrong Mans, QI, Have I Got News for You, Would I Lie to You?, anything that Brian Cox, David Attenborough, Jim Al-Khalili or Michael Mosley are involved in. Some absolutely top class, ground breaking television in that lot. *Edit* Almost forgot Silk, one of my favourites of them all.
Aye that's the problem not taking off drama that has maybe run it's course but replacing it with reality ********. You're right about the characters I felt the writing had deteriorated though I'm never a fan of keeping a drama going if all the originals leave.
peaky Blinders was an excellent series well written well acted well shot. As we may not do some things better than the yanks I think they would struggle to get something like that on tv.
