I'll be honest, I remember plenty of the good times with John, but pretty much forgot all the bad ones. Apart from him forcing Sean McClare upon us.

Me too. Although I liked Sean McClare. Genuinely thought he was going to be a star. Which tells you all you need to know about how much I know about football.

I liked Sean McClare. Reminds me now of Dagnall, in terms of trying but not quite achieving. Ended up at Rochdale for his punishment.

I don't think he was a trier mate, I think that was the problem. He had some skill, not bucket loads of it, but enough, but he wasn't prepared to work at it, not to the extent required by a professional athlete anyway. Pretty much like 99% of the rest of us, who just do enough to get by without really taxing ourselves.

Really? I was only 16/17 then and drunk on five pints pre-match so perhaps I imagined him trying? It was around that time, just after actually, that I thought Mike Sheeeeron (not Sheron) was a class act. I was alone in thinking that amongst my pals. Basically, I'm just proving - again - that my judgment is ****.

I think he tried in the games. From what I gather it was the effort he put in to training that was the problem. He liked going out with his mates and living that sort of life style rather than working his guts out to be a better player. I can't say owt, I did exactly the same as him at his age.

And me. I could have been a contender if it wasn't for lager and such things.

Me too. And the smoking. And the complete lack of motivation. And the crapness, particularly the crapness.

I blame all those mornings before school where I had to sit watching Mr Motivator. He was a fraud. I blame him. Derek was he called? The lovely person.

I think the best story JH told.....

... was when he was doing the hospitality at a Leeds game v Barnsley.

He had to walk around the pitch to another stand with his daughter (he said she was about 14 at the time) and as he walked round, the Barnsley fans saw him and started singing his name, "Super Johnny Hendrie" I would think.

He turned round and saw his daughter crying and when he asked her why she said " I thought they didn't like you [at Barnsley]"

He told her one day doesn't spoil two and a half years.

Great night, with two good blokes.
