£5million divided by 10k people ( a supporters takeover? ) is £500 each. Just a thought. But this sort of thing would never happen would it, I hear many saying. REALLY then take a look at the link below. http://www.documentarytube.com/swansea-city-the-fall-and-rise
We don't get 10,000 people per game at the well so I doubt 10,000 people will part with 500£ for the club
we may not get 10k per game but have you considered the many exiles around the world ? Also some may have a bit more to spare than others. Again look at the link please. These kinda things can happen.
We can't get 10,000 fans who will pay less than 400 quid a season for 23 games. So the chance of getting 10,000 people to pay out even more and for no return would be zero.
yeah! - £10k people giving £500 hard earned cash to pay ridiculous wages to journeymen footballers on silly money who have little or no loyalty to the 'Club' In truth, football teams are no longer 'clubs' in the traditional sense. The Football 'club' Ltd label is a bit of a misnomer in modern times and really they are all simply for-profit businesses with a customer base and not members in the traditional sense. As you say - it ain't gonna happen!
Except very few of them make a profit because their player wage bill is too high. A club like Barnsley would eat up £5m in less than two years just in players' wages, many of which players will make little or no contribution on the pitch. Just think, for example, how much we have paid McNulty this season for next to nothing. And this is the same player who slags off the club who have been paying him good money to not even work for us. And he's just one of many. Only in football, eh?
Say we do get that money together, that's the buyout sorted, PC has his money back. What then? Where's the investment coming from? It's a non starter at this level, which is probably why no fan owned clubs in this country play at this level. Are there any in L1 even? L2 strugglers would be about the best such a set up could hope for.
It's only a few seasons ago that Barnsley were in pretty much this same situation. As I understand John Dennis never actually "owned" the club. We did alright under Dennis. I'm guessing there is a fairly torrid tale as to how it all actually came unstuck... I've heard there are still some fairly upset "shareholders" from the era still around - and still upset. I'd love gain more insight into how the club was actually owned and stuff and how it was all managed then - if anyone knows.
If you look at the football league tables the number of foreign owners has grown massively in the past few years - mainly in the top tier, where the vast majority of clubs are no longer solely owned by someone British. The same is true of the Championship, with only 10 clubs solely owned by British people. The problem is if you want big money put into the club it's unlikely to come from inside the UK. Therefore you need someone from abroad to do it, but to be fair there's plenty of clubs bigger than Barnsley that are going to offer a better financial return for their money. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_English_football_club_owners
did you even attempt .. the link ANY OF YOU no fan based owned club play at this level SWANSEA CITY play in the premier league, watch the link. The fans moved in as they were one game away from the conference... the rest is history.
Re: did you even attempt .. the link ANY OF YOU Portsmouth are now fan run after many years of mismanagement. I have to say the apathy of the Barnsleypublics would prevent anything of this sort happening here.
Re: nail on the head matey, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ebbsfleet_United_F.C. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MyFootballClub http://www.myfootballclub.co.uk/ This idea ruined Ebbsfleet and they were a 5th tier club at the time. For us it would finish us.
Re: nail on the head matey, just like it did Swansea... and they even have a smaller ground than us too. But hey you just keep the blinkers on .
Re: nail on the head matey, There's definitely a greater deal of fan involvement in say Germany than a England. I think it depends on geographical location to an extent and fan base etc.
Re: nail on the head matey, During admin went round tarn wi buckets...Total apathy. Imagine there's less support now.
once pledged its actually a legal binding no but seriously why not... many on here bang on about how much they love this team... how its in their blood. I cannot get there anymore hardly... but would stump up A grand if asked for MY team. Its a drop in the ocean I know, but with enough in the same mind who knows what is possible. I again urge everyone to watch that documentary on Swansea... its possible it really is. I know Swansea is a city... but if you know Swansea at all you will realise its not been the best for employment etc over the period that the documentary covers. I have lived down in S Wales a good many years now... Cardiff were in the 4th tier when I came ... Swansea were at the bottom end of that documentary when they neary died... Newport County HAD died... But look at them now ... 2 in the prem and one looking at Play offs from league 2 to league 1... Swansea and Newport did it with Fan power... Cardiff did it with Foreign investment. The 2 who are the healthiest IMHO are ... Swansea and Newport ..... The two who were taken in hand by fans . Now before you get on your high horses about me perhaps being biased to Welsh clubs since I moved here... I will give you AFC Wimbledon... did their fans give up... HELL NO.... Accrington Stanley also.
