Last night the Trust organised "An Evening with Nicky Eaden" at the legends suite at Oakwell. It was quite simply one of the best nights I have attended involving past BFC players and staff- including those at the Lamproom (which are extremely good I have to say but cost around £11 a ticket).

Nicky spoke very candidly about his career, his views on past Managers at BFC (especially those with Rochdale connectons!) and the state of English Football generally.

Nicky came on stage at 7.20pm and was still going just after 10pm, and everyone there was glued to every word.

However, despite being widely advertised on here, via email, on the Trust's Facebook and Twitter, via the Club at Half Time on Tuesday night, etc, we didn't get as many there as we'd have expected- perhaps around 30. Attendance was free and anyone could attend- whether a Trust Member or not.

So, we are just wondering, why we struggle to get good numbers to such events? Obviously not so interested in hearing from people who had other commitments, that's fair enough. But, for example, is our communication of such events unclear or ambiguous in any way?

    - Did we not advertise widely enough (i.e. is there anyone on here that would have gone but didn't know about it)?
    - Do people think such events are only for Trust members and so don't attend for that reason?
    - Did anyone not attend because we had a match on Tuesday and were put off by two consecutive evenings at Oakwell?
    - Would anyone have attended if the evening was held elsewhere, such as the Lamproom, OldNó7, East Deane WMC etc? For eg do people not attend because drinks are more pricey than at said venues?
    - If events are "free" do people think they'll be crap?

We have further nights planned, Dave Watson is our next guest- in two weeks - so we'd like to see how we can get more people attending!

I'd have attended last night, but my wife's ill so I had more important responsibilities. It had nothing to do with Nicky being the guest. Assuming everything's okay, I'll be attending the next event.

Yeah like I said, I know a lot of people will genuinely have better or more important things to do, but we're just wondering if we can do anything differently.

See you at next one. Gally is buying.

Just one point, it was mentioned that it was free to all ST members, now you say it was free to all. OK - so membership to the ST is free but it meant messing about with another form - so I didn't bother.

That bit was unclear, I might have popped down if I knew I could have got in.

Assumed it was just for Trust members.

Would have struggled to attend anyway due to having commitments around my kids most evenings but would have loved to have been there.

Wahay! I'm definitely there, mate, and Gally isn't allowed to back out of it, either!:D
I think it's always well advertised, so can't think of anything that you're not doing. Sorry, Paul.

Hicksy, it could be due to a timing issue; there being a long time between December and January pay cheques for a lot of people. Maybe an issue with the venue and drinking / driving.

As an out of towner, who doesnt read the chronicle, isnt a member of the trust, doesnt go on the club website cos it is far too clunky and doesnt listen to the announcements on the club tannoy cos he is too busy chatting to other folk, the only way I would know about this event is via this website.

The advertisement on here was one of several and the headline didnt say it was free and at Oakwell, so I presumed it was another lamproom event and didnt open it up. Had it been worded differently i might have opened it up, read it properly and attended. All be it that 2 visits to Oakwell on consecutive days, might have been stretching it a bit.

I thoroughly enjoyed last night, it was great to hear someone talking honestly an passionately about a job that he obviously loves.
I do think it should be made more obvious that these events are open to all supporters, and although drinks are expensive the money is going to the club an not some outside organisation.
Looking forward to the next one already.

The advert on the sticky said it was free for Trust members so rightly or wrongly I assumed it would be around a tenner for none-members.
I paid for the Redfearn evening at the Legends suite and that was sold out so maybe this could have been advertised better.
Although Eaden hasn't the same legendary status as Redfearn, I'm sure more fans would have been there if they'd realised it was free.
The sticky went on a bit about his career and other things which it didn't really need to do, we would have found out on the evening.
A colourful poster with a big "****-off" FREE TO ALL would maybe have tempted me down.

I assumed it was trust members only. Anything connected with the trust I don't really read as I am not a member.

I would be interested in going so long as don't have to fill forms in, or take out membership etc. I don't object to paying towards room hire or whatever and venue is no issue.

As it happened I couldn't go last night anyway but would be interested in other similar events.

I certainly support your efforts in getting these things organised.

From a personal point of view, I got out of the habit of going to such things. Actually, it's more than that, I purposely stopped going.

I used to be a member of both the supporters club and the the supporters trust (I understand they have now amalgamated). I attended all the meetings, guest speakers and official business, despite living miles away in a different town. I paid £25 (I think, it could have been more) to become a member of the supporter's trust during our time in administration. To this day, I have no idea where that money went. I was sold the idea of the supporter's trust, in the very first meeting, by being told that my money would go to help BFC in their time of need. It turns out it wasn't that, it was my membership. And it was only my membership for one year. This was on top of the membership money I already paid to the supporters club every year.

Despite attending all the meetings we were never told anything, it was always "Yes we're working on that, but it's a very sensitive situation and we can't tell you any more." We were treated like plebs by those who had been voted on to the board, yet we were supposedly all at the same level. I started to get angry when I (and everyone else there) was continually talked down to, kept in the dark and generally treated as an inconvenience, and if I had carried on going I would have ended up hitting someone. So I stopped. As it was all the same people at the supporter's club meetings, I stopped going there too. The last meeting I attended was the first with Peter Ridsdale. My membership then expired and I never renewed.

I'm aware of your meetings. I know they are free. I obviously missed a good night with Nicky Eaden and I already liked him a lot, but after reading back what I've just written I've clearly still got a big problem with the whole supporters trust thing. I didn't realise I had it so bad, I thought I'd just lost interest, but it's clearly more than that.

    Sorry, but you did ask.

I think I was just a bit slack in not reading it properly Hicksy. Had it in my head from the start that you had to be a member of the Supporters Trust to attend.

Exactly as Rothred says - I'd jus assumed it was another Lamproom event.

Any chance of 'broadcasting' these events? I would've had to make a 500 mile round trip on a weekday evening but gutted all the same. Happy to pay a fee even to watch over t'internet.

The fact is was free I thought would encourage people out- there's never any commitment to buy a drink although it isn't very popular with CGC if nobody does!

But yes, the venue is a drive away for most and I guess that may be an issue for some if you wanna have a beer.

    This:

    - Do people think such events are only for Trust members and so don't attend for that reason?

I saw it was a trust event and stopped there as im not a member.
