I don't no why but I get the impression this bloke as got no intention of settling down up north and playing for Barnsley
I don't think it's fair to judge him so quick, but my alarm bells are ringing. He's a trendy urbanite and I'll think he'll miss London, his posse and all the kudos that comes with playing for Arsenal. Thing is, he will have to sort himself out and play well, if only to get himself in the shop window.
agree. i won't judge him just yet. but he's had an absolute horror show of a debut, and owes us big already. i would also hammer him with the maximum fine.
could well turn out to be a bad move for both player and us tbh. Lets hope not but his reputation has preceded him here hasn't it.
Agree with that - my alarm bells were ringing as soon as I saw his tweet yesterday. You are right - it is too early to judge. But the signs are not good.
He will take some getting rid of if we want to what with his reputation, but then thats maybe the reason we got him because of the reputation he has and he knew no one else above us would touch him
When I first watched video of him playing, my impression of him was, he does not tackle well and he could be easily sent off. Then he does exactly what I expected. To be fair the first was not a yellow and a good ref would have just spoken to him. The second was barely a yellow but we had not got a good ref. the standard of refereeing is getting worse. This guy sends three players off in a local derby which was not a really dirty game, but he was never with it from the off. melliss was stonewall penalty, but you need refs with guts and this ref had nothing
obviously way too knee jerk after just 30 minutes. calm heads required, for the next couple of games at least. i do wonder what t'owd hemmsy's thoughts are right now though, about his 'tough tackling cm'?
The problem is that the ref had just spoken to him, barely 10 seconds earlier. And as soon as play restarted he piled in again. Totally indisciplined and gave the ref no option but to book him.
weird innit, how opinions differ in football. not having a go by the way. but i thought the ref had no choice. pingpong had nibbled 3 or 4 times, and the ref had a sensible word him on the last challenge. 30 seconds later he went straight in. nailed on yellow, consistent offence. he had another word with him when he booked him. minutes later, crazy sliding scissor tackle, easy yellow for me. he made the refs decision very easy. i also thought the mellis penalty was the right call. for me, if there was contact it was absolutely minimal, and mellis was looking for it. again, mellis' reaction to the decision was petulant, and cost us as far as i'm concerned, that result sits firmly in our own dressing room
i'm predicting 'he's a young man who was just trying hard, it happens'. i know this much, any one of lawrence, bobby or digby and that would never have happened in a million years. anything like a repeat in his next game, and for me he's out of the starting XI straight away
He was rightly sent off. He is obviously a gamble, otherwise Leicester, Burnley, Derby, et al would have signed him. That said we need to take a gamble or two, otherwise we are down. Danny can't allow that type of indiscipline. In my opinion he needs to win his place back from Digby. Dawson is rubbish. Rubbish. Rubbish.
When you look at his performance, it hardly adds up to a sending off. I thought the first one was harsh, but there had perhaps been a couple of instances that led to that one. It's the nature of yellow cards and he should have known better. I was just thinking Wilson should take him off at half-time, then crunch....
I was thinking just at the point he went in for the second yellow that Wilson needed to haul him off because it was obvious that there was no way he was going to last the full 90 minutes on the pitch. It was bleeding obvious.
My mate, who's an Arsenal fan with a soft spot for us, couldn't believe we'd signed him. His words were "...you'll never see him. He'll either be injured or suspended..." Hmmm...
