Accepting he made a mistake, but referring to fans as idiots. Not helpful. Not helpful at all. I really do wish footballers would just stay away from Twitter.
He isn't referring to fans as idiots he's saying to those who are abusing him on twitter that if they really think he needs it pointing out to him that he's made a mistake THEN they're idiots and he's right, they are
To be fair to O Brien, he had the guts to come over to fans and hold his hands up. And in saw plenty of idiot Barnsley fans today. Kicking seats in, behaving like morons. But as you say, it doesn't do him any favours putting it on Twitter.
Some fans go far too overboard but then am sure they are faultless individuals who have never made a mistake. Folk need to chill art a bit and discuss it later.
Come on, don't twist it mate. He admits to making a mistake and apologises, but says if fans think he needs telling he's made a mistake they're idiots. Nowt wrong with it in my opinion.
Right or wrong, it's not helpful given the current feeling among Barnsley fans. That's my only point.
That's not quite the whole story is it? <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en-gb"><p>Vent at me if u like, its understandable but if u think i need told i made a mistake then ur an idiot. I can only apologise not turn bk time</p>— Jim O'Brien (@theboyobrien) <a href="https://twitter.com/theboyobrien/statuses/429689090112774145">February 1, 2014</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Agreed. And professional footballers need to switch Twitter off until the morning. And refrain from referring to fans as idiots. After such an incendiary match, performance and result, just ******* switch your phone off for a few hours.
Tsk tsk tomfun, twisting things like that isn't nice at all. I really do wish football fans would just stay away from Twitter when they're angry and disappointed.
I personally agree with players having a dig back. Keyboard warriors giving it large, why shouldn't a player respond? Still maintain that Cantona should have been given a honorary knighthood for braying that Palace ******...
Isn't it? He accepts he made a mistake, and refers to fans as idiots. I think that's pretty clear from the tweet. No more, no less. I personally don't blame Jim O'Brien at all. I've said that several times in other threads. My point is that this kind of tweet and the timing of it, cannot be helpful, in the land of Twitter "Vent at me if u like, its understandable but if u think i need told i made a mistake then ur wrong. I can only apologise not turn bk time" ....there, doesn't that sound much better
I think he's right. My own criticism of him on here earlier was OTT, but was born out of sheer frustration & anger and was directed at his error, not at him as a person. He certainly will be aware of his error.
Folk need to realise it's a game of football. Back to work Monday ( eh Hemmsy) I've made loads of mistakes in my job since December and i"m still in work. We lost chill art
