    Double standards tomfun, you can't berate a player for having his own opinion on matters and then tell him to turn his phone off whilst you're doing the same as he is, giving an opinion. The lad has had the decency to apologise, just leave it at that.

    I agree if he is referring to unreasonable mindless abuse he should not have to accept it. If a mistake was made, call him a numpty, he says sorry its all water under the bridge. Some people need to put things into perspective.

    who have i berated? i said some of his comments weren't helpful. i still don't think they are. i've also defended jim several times for the pass he's getting slated for. i don't think that's berating. but hey

    At least he has the guts to accept he made a mistake and to apologise for it, what else can he do? Mistakes happen!
    I saw him hold his hands up apologetically after the game when coming across to applaud the fans and he's even apologised on twitter and yet people get on at him, shocking really...

    I don't understand why some people think it's OK to personally abuse and insult players on here, Farcebook, Twitter etc, and then claim that they should not be allowed to use such websites to answer the criticism or defend themselves.

    Jim O'Brien has been called a "stupid f*cking ****", a "f*cking stupid knob", "half-wit", "thick as f*cking pig ****" on this site tonight. He then uses the word "idiot" and gets slagged off on here. Bizarre.

    There are some nasty people out there, who feel ok to spout abuse behind the safety of a keyboard, I don't mean on this site, just sites like twitter in general. What was the name of the boxer who tracked down someone who was slagging him of and found out where he lived .... that was funny :)

    Some the comments on here tonight are appalling. So it's OK for people to say what the hell they like on here but not accept that a person has the right of reply, especially when he is big enough to admit his mistake and apologise.

    Not the point but Steele should have saved it anyway.

    Come on mate, reel it in now. Surely you can see that he wasn't referring to the fans as idiots in the way that, say Keith Hill used to do. He was quite specific in his tweet. As far as I can see it, us venting our spleen on here and saying he made a mistake that led to the goal is one thing, but to start with the personal insults is another. We all knew he made a mistake, but he certainly knows it himself.
