Wasn't going to comment tonight but thought i would. One of the threads says the team don't try and offsprings thread saying Barnsley didn't deserve anything today. Really don't agree with both. Thought Barnsley tried today. The ref had a shocker and I'm didn't give Barnsley anything apart from sending there player off late in the game. On Frimpong yes it was a second yellow but he gave the first for a lot of fouls, two of them weren't fouls at all but because there fans started shouting he was putting whistle to mouth and blowing. Before he got sent off I thought Frimpong looked quite good. Mellis really bad tackle but surely he should be giving a Pen, At the time i thought he must have slipped but the more i think about it he didn't and if he had the chance to stay on his feet hes got a great chance 10 yard out with their goalkeeper not set. To the off spring thread, didn't Barnsley have three cleared of the time and remember that barnsley played with 10 men for such a long time and 9 men at the end. Steele didn't really have a difficult shot to make and then the goal, thought he should have saved that to be honest. Of the players on the pitch I thought he was the worst. Against teams like Wednesday you need a 6ft'2 goalkeeper to come and control his area, he just doesn't. He comes half way and then just stops. The defenders must think WTF Steele. He nearly put Barnsley in it when he kicked the ball straight to there player. Saying that, that one stayed on the pitch unlike a few of his other kicks. Also I thought Wilson made a lot of wrong decisions today. Personally I would have took The Germany off unfront instead of O'grady. He couldn't hold the ball up which O'Grady can. O'brien on was the correct call for me but I would have took Shea off. Thirdly for hunt, I would have moved Cranie across and put a defender on, M'Voto would have been good for the end.
Nice one Hemsie. I agree with most of that, but the goal came through a crowd of players and Luke saw it very late. He makes mistakes, but no more than any goalie in the league.
Sorry but he can't kick the ball to the opposition like that. Hes lucky that it fell to someone that didn't seem to want to shoot.
It was a bad kick, with his left foot. But why did he get put in that position from a bad back pass? Team game, can't go singling out individual players for errors. Win as a team, lose as a team. Didn't you once say something along those lines on here?
I actually agree with what you've written there phil except for your Steele comment, he made a cracking save in the 2nd half and he could do very little about their goal other than that he had very little to do so I'm not sure how you can say he was our worse player mate
Architects of our own downfall today. Players lacking any sort of discipline and getting themselves sent off, players giving the ball away far far too easy, its criminal when we are a man short, but no we persisted on giving it away and just lumping it up field. Also no movement off the ball from our players, they just tend to stand and watch, where as Blackburn and Sheff W today created plenty of space and moved the ball out wide quickly. Like I said, the back four can hold their heads up as they were solid considering the ***** in front of them were rubbish. So yeah we got what we deserved.
You're right hemsy. Steele had an awful game. He should have improved his height to at least seven feet by now. I don't agree he was our worst player though. I thought Bobby Hassell was that bad you'd almost think he wasn't playing. But to be serious for a moment, regarding the substitutions, tommy c came on for Jennings because Jennings had run out of legs, couldn't continue. Same as hunt, and he might have brought mvoto on but having defended as well as we had he'd most likely have been mullered for splitting the centre half pairing. You really do have some informed opinions, and make a lot of sense. But you ruin it with always berating the same players even when they've done nothing to warrant it. Maybe you'd prefer to have a 6'5" giant in goal, happy to come out for crosses, but who has the agility of a slug and shot stopping potential of a yard brush? We're barely in the top 50 clubs in the country. We therefore are not going to have a goalkeeper who can hit a five pence piece from fifty yards with either foot, who commands his area and never drops anything, who's as agile as gymnast, quick as Usain Bolt and brave as a fecking lion. He doesn't exist - and if he did he'd be on 200k a week at man city or Real Madrid etc. Luke Steele isn't 6'4". (Wiki does suggest he's 6'2", though I'm not convinced, doesn't look that big). He doesn't command his area that well and he isn't particularly strong with the ball at his feet. He's also tremendously agile and in my opinion the best shot stopper we've had since the current England goalkeeping coach. (Who isn't even 6' as I recall). I think folk are already suitably fecked off, they don't need another one of your threads lighting the touch paper.
So you'd of broke up our centre back pairing who were outstanding to bring on M'Voto? Thank god you aren't our manager!
