In response to hemsworth-tyke's statement (the 'what have you done' question)... Bobby could turn around to Frimpong or whoever and say "I've done more for this club and life in general than whatever you have done young un!" But thing is Bobby wouldn't do that sort of thing, he'd simply laugh it off and get on wi game. I wouldn't like to thing that anyone would be like that wi Bobby, I tell ya somet tho, had he av been laiking on Sat... He'd av defo had a word wi Frimpong and Mellis.
Not been funny or anything but the likes of Frimpong wouldn't know anything about him. Also been at a club for a long time dosen't mean you are a good player and respected. looking at the Arsenal Squad Bendtner's one of there longest serving players and I don't think hes anywhere near the best quality of players or most respected. I would look at Mellis actually. Think hes a class player and really his improving off the ball. Made quite a few tackles on Saturday and got most of them right. I don't think it was a bad debut. Whitey. It was never two yellows. he's not touched the guy and in open play he looks good.
No, you're right. How silly of me. The fact a player has been at one club for ten years, under seven different managers means he's ****. It's the players who come through the academy and make two appearances before ending up playing for Athersley that deserve respect. And again, I'm wrong, you're right. Frimpong had a good debut. He didn't deserve to be sent off. He didn't even deserve a booking. In open play (apart from him giving 6 fouls away) he looked good. Yes. My head hurts..
So let me get this straight - being at a club for a decade and performing consistently under different managers doesn't mean you're good or respected. But if you come from Arsenal you are automatically a good player and potentially a worthy captain despite having a ridiculously unprofessional debut and spending more of the past few years appearing in rap videos and saying "dench" on Twitter than actually playing football. Reyt.
Proschwitz aside (who I haven't seen enough of to form judgement) you've probably named the 4 worst captaincy candidates in the squad.
I didn't mean they should be captain in that post although i Mellis in my opinion would be a good captain.
Have a day off Phil ffs. Just because you have no respect for our longest serving player doesnt mean that our first team squad share your narrow-minded and flawed opinion of him.
You'd make Mellis captain? A player who was sacked from his last club for letting a firework off in the changing rooms, a player that has many obvious qualities none of which are leadership, a player who regularly loses the plot & gets in needless tussles with opposition players & back chats to the ref, are you on about this Mellis? I think Mellis would be just about last in order of the regular starters I'd consider for captaincy. He'd be at the bottom with Kennedy. Cracking player but never a captain in a million years
And presumably Bobby would reply by saying he's been at the club for 10 years, seen off countless managers who thought they were big shots before crawling back to Bobby and begging him to get them out of the ****, has helped the club survive the drop more times than they've had hot dinners, has played at Wembley in an FA Cup semi final and has been victorious in a play off final, is respected by the whole of Barnsley and has played nearly 500 games in his career and is still going strong. And unlike Frimpong he hasn't been on failed loans at more clubs than he's scored goals in his career, nor unlike Mellis has he ever been sacked for being an idiot or arrested for common assault on a woman and he puts more effort in in one game than mellis puts in in his entire career. He'd also hopefully point out that Barnsley is probably the best Bobby could ever play for because he ISNT the most technically gifted player but has heart, passion, guts and intelligence and puts in 100% every game. He'd point out that when he retires he'll have no regrets because he's listened and learned and done the best that he can and had the best career he can, something which those two wannabe's will never be able to say because while they've got the natural ability they haven't got the work ethic or intelligence to give it their all and ensure they have the best career that they possibly can otherwise Frimpong would still be playing in the premiership and Mellis wouldn't have pissed his Chelsea opportunity up the wall
your going over things thats been over before and isn't true. Seen off managers. When was the last time we was a regular in the team? Yes brilliant player
Which bit wasn't true? You're denying that he's seen off managers? Only it appears to me that they have left and he is still here Last time he was a regular? When he was saving Flitcrofts job back end of last season before Flitcrofts ego got the better of him and he thought he could do it without Bobby's help. You'll note who is now in the championship and who is in league two
wasn't a regular last season. BArnsley played 50? games last season he only took part in 19. Take him over 10 years to someone else who's in his 10th year, Wayne Rooney. Hassell played 281 plus this season to waynes 427 and thats with the amount of body injuries hes had and the pressure on his body of playing for the premier league champions and England so hes not had full rests every summer. Now thats a regular in the team stats
Who said that Bobby hassell was Wayne rooney you ****? And If you went back to school and learned to read you'd see that I said BACK END OF LAST SEASON. You know, the only part of the season where we were playing well.
I think we're all confusing what a captain needs to be. The captain of the team is the representative of the team on the pitch. For this reason I'd be more inclined to make the captain someone who is able to quickly be on the scene when needed (i.e. An outfield player) and someone who is respected by the players but, more importantly, is likely to be respected by the officials (so don't make the team hothead the captain). He needs to have leadership qualities, but you need several of those in the team anyway, whether they are captain or not. Perkins had his faults (I thought he was a decent player, but maybe not so much this season), but he was constantly encouraging those around him. You need a strong defender, preferably a centre back which makes it easy to communicate with both full backs, to organise the defence, again, whether he is captain or not. And you need the experienced players to keep the younger players or angrier players under control, to encourage them and lead by example. Captains in the Neil Redfearn, Billy Bremner or Steven Gerrard mould are few and far between. If you're lucky enough to have a player like that in your team then the captain picks himself, but I don't think we have had one for quite a while. Your captain needs to be dedicated to the cause, play for the team and stick his neck on the line to help his teammates. This is why Jason Shackell was a poor captain and why the team were happy to see him go. A captain can influence the team but, more importantly, he can influence the officials, hence the need for someone who is most likely to win the ear of the referee. When England made Shearer the captain it was a masterstroke. All of a sudden he gave less fouls away and won more free kicks, as the refs were more likely to side with him for being the captain. On Saturday, when the referee had to take Frimpong aside to warn him about his conduct, particularly as he was on the edge of our box close to our defenders, Crainie should have been there and been involved in that conversation, both whilst the ref was speaking and afterwards, having a quiet word with Frimpong himself. Certainly after the yellow card he should have been having a word, as it was clear to all of us what was going to happen. It might not have changed the outcome, but it just might have calmed things down a bit. I'd be disappointed with this if I was DW. Can you imagine if a ref was having a word with a Liverpool player. It's unthinkable that Gerrard wouldn't be over there with them. If Bobby is playing, particularly in midfield, he would be an ideal captain. However, he's not guaranteed a first team place, so maybe not the best idea. So Crainie is probably the best option, but I'd be reminding him of some of his duties as captain before the next match.
******* hell fire! Comparing Hassell to Rooney, how daft are you wanting to make ya sen look h-t? Rooney shags grannies... Bobby dunt, he shags fan's wives!
I was looking at a league appearances. With you calling Hassell a regular with that amount of games played per season 32 i've had a little look through other actual regulars for there club and country. Caillas, AVG for Madrid and Spain 58 games per season. Regular Rooney almost 50 and hes been injured Ferdinand even with the injuries and ban he's still avg 45 games per season. Thats what I mean by regulars ST. All play at the top level with the pressures that come. Everyone of them first choice apart from this season for two of them in their positions.
