How could you? I wouldn't be surprised if the post about summer holidays became a Bobby berating thread.

"I'll check back at tea-time, see what Phil thinks. He'll turn it all into a Bobby/Luke massacre no doubt and rope the Germans in somewhere."

    Famous last words....

That is without a doubt the most embarrassing and clueless paragraph I have ever read anyone write about football. You really do know absolutely nothing about football.

Whilst not wanting to extend this ridiculous thread any further, I just have to say that if I was the manager of any club and I heard some pretentious w*nker who's been playing the game for 5 minutes and could write his experience on a stamp say to any other player that "I have played in the Champions League, What have you done", never mind making him captain, his arse would be out of the door before he had finished the sentence.

Lol hemsie, where flimpong has been for the past few years and where ever he has played, hes ended up at Barnsley. The very same team that Hassell plays for. Hes no longer at arsenal. His carreer has taken a nosedive. I would guess that he will look up to Hassell, respect him and want to learn from him. He may be quicker and have more skill, but saturday proved he has a lot to learn. If he carries on like that he wont play for 10 years in the FL never mind at one club

    Of course it happens.

Do you think the likes of O'shea at Sunderland was okay but Di Canio telling them how they should play and some of them were bad players.....

Thats why they turned on him. The likes of O'Shea weren't happy. They didn't need him telling them that. They had played champions league football, international football.

What had he done that was so good?

Then they thought thats that and he went.

Di Canio has played Champions League football. He's won the UEFA cup and Serie A as well.

okay but O'shea's won every Trophy he could have and played 90 odd games for Ireland and didn't like it.

From what come out he was the major one that went to the Sunderland board

De Canio though was twice the footballer that John O'Shea has ever been.

What has this got to do with Martin Cranie and the BFC captaincy? What is it you are trying to point out? I'm at a loss here, mate.

it went off topic but I was trying to explain why you need a big name on page one but it's gone off topic a little.

Cranies one of the bigger names in our squad to me along with Mellis Ramage Steele Frimpong jennings theres a couple more.

Di Canio got sacked because of his poor management style. End of.

Sir Alex Ferguson - Won no top tier titles as a player, made no Champions League appearance. I dont even think he played for Scotland.

Mourinho and Wenger. I dont think they played European or international football either.

The problem was that Di Canio was a volatile man who didn't know how to man manage and get the best out of his players, instead resorting to childish jibes and destructive criticism which is basically bullying. If Pele or Maradona had treated the Sunderland players and O'Shea in the same way, they would have had the same dissatisfaction and hated working under them.

There is a big difference between the way Di Canio behaves and a professional helping their team-mate out by offering them constructive advice, no matter what level they have played at.

Jennings a big name, when we signed him everybody said WHO?

Being at Bayern doesn't make him a big name, If he was a regular and won the Champ league , yes. The fact that he failed to get any where near the first team says no. You talk crap.

RNL once trained at Man Utd and got name in paper for youngest appearance I think he should be captain

A little off topic is an understatement in the same way that Mark Thatcher went a little off route once.

Right. I see the point you're making now, and you're perfectly entitled to believe it pal.

Personally, I think respect certainly comes into it. I imagine though, that different managers have different reasons for choosing a captain. For example, I know that when Jacob was given the armband by Keith, it was a show of faith/trust in him. He treated him like a son, seriously. He believed in him and it worked wonders. I think it also bumped up his value, and I know Keith thought by making him captain that Don would extend his contract sooner. It didn't work, mind.
Jacob was shocked to receive it, though. He expected Bobby to be captain, or Foz. But they supported him, because they knew he could lead via performances. He wasn't a shouter, or a motivator. He captained with his feet, or summat. :D

So there's many reasons for managers choosing them. I mean, if we want an experienced pro, a loyal captain who commands respect, Bobby is the ideal candidate. But he's not a regular. Perhaps you want a shouter, a motivator? O'Brien would be perfect. What about a regular, a consistent key performer? Cranie or COG? Or do you go down the Butterfield route and give it to a Digby or RNL?

As I say, Danny'll have his reasons, based on what he requires/sees.

    I think Cranie's a good fit.

Personally, I'd give it Lawrence. He's a motivator, a character, experienced, played in all four divisions, commands respect. But again, he's not (yet) a regular.

    I'm rambling. :D
