I saw the online stream on Saturday and got the impression that he had been fouling almost non stop. But no, and here is the proof.

First twenty minutes, fairly anonymous, couple of passes, nothing aggressive. Then....

20:40 His first foul, and just a pull back, nothing dirty
22:30 Another foul and Marriner decides to give him a warning, doing the pointing around the pitch like he had been at it big time. But this was his only SECOND foul
23:07 Warning ignored and he does the silly foul on the edge of the box to give them a scoring chance. BOOKED
29:56 Red mist descends by the corner flag, scissors challenge to bring the guy down. OFF

Now I am not condoning what he did - far from it. But look at the evidence above. I wonder what went on in that crazy ten minute period. Makes you wonder if he got some verbal abuse from someone, maybe even the player he chopped down to get the red card. Just a thought but I wonder if that happened. He wasn't retaliating against being fouled, so why on earth would he do that?

Two reasons spring to mind. The above (possible) provocation or he is just plain stupid. Anyone else got a theory?

He actually got his warning after deliberately stopping them from taking a freekick and should really have been booked

I do have another theory. I just dont want to post it online. It's one that must have crossed a few other peoples minds too. I'm hoping he was just being naive and reckless.

The thing is that if he reacts like that to verbal abuse then he is in the wrong career. I don't think it was anything more than a complete lack of discipline and professionalism. I think you're second theory is probably closer to the mark.

Assuming this is what some are thinking, I think we can rule out the likelihood that any player at his level would risk their careers with illegal gambling and match fixing. Those who have been rumbled for doing it will be paid a pittance compared to Frimpong, a young man who would have so much to lose by cheating like that.
