What's the best hothatch i can get for 3k? I've been looking at the fiesta st and clio 172 But insurance proved quite expensive
You probably know this but anyway Be sure to check the running costs and servicing prices of these types of cars before buying. Also try and get one with as much service history as possible. With respect, it's always a risky business buying cars at 3K. Especially performance orientated ones, so choose carefully. If you land on a good one though, they're well worth the money I think the Ibiza's are a good shout, good alternative to what you've been looking at. Also to add to the list might be a Mitsubishi Colt CZ-T. Also for something a bit different, and if you can skimp a bit on practicality, I've always thought that the Hyundai Coupe's (2.7 V6) represent good value for money.
I have a Fiesta Zetec S 1.6TDCi - cheap to run, cheap enough to insure, £30 tax p/a and it's got plenty of "oomph"
My cousin has one and it spends most of the time getting fixed. always some stupid niggle, plus the fact she has had a new fuel pump(high pressure one) and waterpump renewed at only 47,000 miles. I just wondered if they were all dodgy or if she had got a lemon ! Ta.
To be fair it broke down once when the EGR valve went, and it only broke down a second time due to a poor repair! Mine's done about 87,000 miles since new, 2008.
Mutual friend of mine and the ex bought exactly the same car as mine, and up until she sold it last year she had absolutely no problems with it(apart from reversing it in to a lamppost). I think it's a cracking little car, I'll be sad to see it goes when the day for change comes.
Honda Civic type r. Shud get a 03 plate for that at a push. Cracking engines, very rarely fail. Really shift when u get leather down.
If your lucky you might get one of the early Fabia VRS for that sort of money. 50mpg and low insurance and pretty quick.
£1.5 - £2K will get you a 04 Mk2 MG ZS 180 saloon with the full body kit/extreme spoiler (looks like a scooby) - its got the bullet proof KV6 2.5 engine - MG won a number of BTCC races with it - not many around, but tend to be owned by MG enthusiasts, so all common weak spots have be fixed, and cars not trashed. I have a 54 Mk2 my annual insurance is £140 !!!! - agreed valuation of £2.5k - annual mileage of £5k - goes like the clappers check out the mg zs pages on FB https://www.facebook.com/groups/475756782447499/ https://www.facebook.com/groups/mgzsoc/
I test drove one of these, the fastest thing I have ever drove, I eventually saw sense and bought a new ZS 120 with the milder 1.8 engine, I would have lost my licence with the 180. Don't listen to the likes of that w4nker clarkson and his ilk, these are decent cars for the masses. I've had loads of BL and Rover cars and never had a bad un.
