Not sure you can define what role he had in those twenty minutes. My point is that Danny has played him sat in front of a back 4 since he came in. I imagine that's where he'll always play now wheras Frimpong has been brought in because it seems he's got a bit of pace and power. And yes. He's not great but I think he'd be better at covering and pressing than Bobby would in midfield. Like I've said, Bobby is perfect to just sit there and be disciplined in a 3.
The interesting thing here is that when Hassell played in a 442 with Howard under Davey he was f.cking slated for not being a good enough midfielder.
That now folk are advocating him as a central midfielder. He's a great (for our level) defensive midfielder that can sit and just protect a back four. I don't think he'd be a great midfielder in a 4 and he's proved that (which is my point). Same as Kelvin. His strengths are defending. The further you put him up the pitch, the less effective he will be.
Like a fair few of our positions, different players suit different rolls. Hassell can be fantastic in the 3
I agree with you on the last bit. And I'm assuming Frimpong will walk back in after Saturday, so it'll be interesting to see how Bobby figures, if it all.
So he had a few bad games 5 years ago, in a totally different team, alongside a player who left us years ago. Not relevant in the slightest imo. He can sit and defend in a 4, leave the other central mid to get forrad. He has played successfully in a 4 before too.
Do you think Saturday was a one off, or a true reflection of what he brings to the side? Because even dismissing the two yellows, he was bloody awful.
Dawson wouldn't play for this club again if it was up to me. He's utterly terrible and will never be good enough for The Championship. His 'performance' off the bench at Hillsborough on Saturday was laughable. And that is me being kind. Central two of Lawrence and Bobby for me.
And, to further your good points, with Hunt/McLaughlin now (full backs who bomb on) it's like having another winger, which allows Jennings/Cywka/Shea/Paddy/RNL (whoever) to move inside at times and create a central three. The thing about this is, if you had to nail your colours to the mast and decide who you could rely on, you'd pick Hassell every time over Dawson and Frimpong. The latter two are as predictable as the lottery numbers.
