but mud sticks, this is why it should be total anonymity................ are they now going to name the LIAR that made these false accusations
. Edit: No, yeah, I didn't mean to post this. No idea how it happened. Sent from my GT-I8160 using Tapatalk 2
You're caught between a rock and a hard place with potential sex crimes. If you don't release the details of the person arrested, how can other potential victims come forward? Least worst I'm afraid.
You could try convicting them on the evidence of the first accuser - or if the accuser knows of others ask the accuser to suggest people the police might want to speak to. If in a family situation the police could ask other children in the family - if in care other kids in the care home. In a school other teachers and other pupils. In a catholic church other choirboys. No need to splash it all over the press. No need to mention anyones' names. Jimmy Saville truly is an exception. How many others have access to so many people with so much trust. this can be done better. If that doesn't stand up then no harm done. If it does then publish the names and more come forwards and a further trial happens...more justice is delivered.
But on the flip side, isn't there a public interest in knowing who has been arrested on such charges? The key here is for the public to know the difference between a charge and a conviction.
But they don't People are stupid. Paediatricians beaten up cos' people are stupid - need I go on. There was a guy whose credit card was cloned and used to buy child porn. Job lost - family won't talk to him, life ruined because it came to light when the police arrested him (not interviewed - arrested even though Sherlock hadn't noticed the payment was processed from the Phillipines not St. Albans) the law needs to reflect what people actually do - not what people should do.
3/3 from Corrie found not guilty now. Opersation Yewtree and their witch hunt just because of Savile is starting to look useless. It's a shame in these cases that when found not guilty mud still sticks, but the person/s who's stories are not believed get to be anonymous for life.
There is however from what I've read about the case it looks very much like the accuser was flat out lying and in court it was brought up how highly unlikely it is that a girl who was raped to lose her virginity would forget how old she was when this happened which is something that this woman has claimed she did. I doubt there is a single poster on here who doesn't know how old they were when they lost theirs, never mind forget how old they were if they were raped but in court this woman has said different ages in different statements before admitting she wasn't sure how old she was. That alone is enough to suggest the claims are totally made up in my eyes
My view on this is there's a massive difference between been totally innocent & there been not enough evidence to convict, however both results are 'not guilty'. I guess we'll never know for sure. I can only hope he is genuinely innocent.
I n some cases I can see the reason for not nameing the victim but in some cases they should be, in this case we are seeing a 60+ year old woman accusing an 80 year old of rapeing her in the1960's, now I'm not saying it's true in this case but if she was named it could open the door for men of the same age to come foreward and say hang on, I knew her in the 60's and she was an easy lay, cos then there were a lot of girls taking advantage of the new age of permissivness to have a good time that their mothers wouldn't have dreamed of, and in my view that is the trouble with type of historical claims, we are judging people of doing things in the past by todays standards. As 14 years old lad there was a beautifull girl of the same age in our class who was having sex with a 21 year old, who thought she was about 17, and openly bragging about it, now if today as a 64 year old she accused him of rape etc and I saw her name I would be saying, no, she's lying and while this guy is guilty of having sex with a minor it was with her consent, and everyone knew that. She eventually got pregnant and was "sent" away from the area to live with an aunt and as far as I know nothing was done to the guy. She wasn't the only one either at that time.
