He's the only player in the entire history of football who was at fault for more of the opposition goals than they actually scored.

He played just one more game for us after that play-off final loss, a 4-1 drubbing away at Birmingham in August of the following season. He was hauled off at half time and never seen again. Oxford took a look at him on loan, but didn't like what they saw (they conceded 13 goals in the final 4 of 6 games he played for them). Falkirk gave him 5 games before giving up on him and he played one season with Berwick in the Scottish second division and that was it.

He obviously wasn't good enough to be a professional footballer, not his his fault, neither am I, but what the hell was he doing playing in the biggest game in our history? In financial terms it was at any rate. Nicky Eaden and Scott Jones were on the bench. Curtis was played at right wing wing back, where he was completely unsuited, he could have played sweeper and Eaden could have got the wing back role. It was a great season that, but ******* hell Harry, what were you doing in that game?

I asked Eaden about this - he said he'd had an injury ten days before so knew he wouldn't be playing.

Aye, Eaden was injured wasn't he?

But there were still other options.

    correct dyson.
Keith Brown had a stormer against brum away but harry, even not in reflection, should have changed it at half time and I am still convinced we would have won.
the missed pen and the save from hristovs header didnt help though.

I don't actually blame him solely for the first goal. If I remember correctly (and my memory is not what it was) Tinkler casually sliced an easy clearance out for throwing and at the time I began thinking the worse and I believe they scored as a result of the throwing. Obviously he was fault for what happened for the goal but we shouldn't have been that position if Tinkler had made the clearance.

Also, wasn't Brown playing because Bassett changed it around for the first Semi Final where we played three at the back and Brown was one of them? I assumed he kept his place because of that performance. Again my memory is a sieve but that's how I sort of remember it.

And a caveat or added gossip....

I was speaking to Andy Lawire who was a Falkirk player around the time Brown was there and he stated that he was a bit of big head and that no one at the club liked him. Soon after he was off to Berwick.

Tinkler put it out for a corner from which Tony Mowbray scored.

Tinkler's skewed clearance went for a corner, which we dealt with. However, the resulting second ball in was fantastic and Mowbray beat Brown all too easily to equalise.

Tinkler was awful that day, too. But Brown was at fault for more than that one goal.

Had Curtis been centre half and Eaden right wing back we probably would have won and 'arry could then have signned some right ***** for us on prem the following season.

I agree. I'd have had Curtis, Morgan and Chettle as the back three. But Eaden wasn't deemed fit enough to start.

Excellent save by Richard Wright. As for the penalty I thought before it was taken that Hignett should have been taking it with having the momentum from already being on the scoresheet and being more of an attacking threat than Barnard.

I still have nightmares about that. Everybody thinks the missed penalty was our chance, but i don't agree. Ipswich battered us in the second half until we pulled the goal back. If Hristov's header had gone in I am sure we would have gone on to win. It wasn't a bad header though, just a good save. Having said that, Wright scored our first, so we can't complain!

Hadn't Barnard never missed a penalty in his career before then?
