My lads 9. Got retro BFC shirts as the WSB lads will know. Loves the Reds and goes to all the home games with me.

I signed him up to the supporters club before he was born and he had his scan picture on his membership card!

Me and his mum are divorced now and he has a bit of a Man City 'liking'!!!! It keeps him interested in footy although it's not my cuppa. He's got Citeh stuff at his mums. I let him off with the odd bit but if you ask him he's a Red! I once liked Pet Shop Boys and Erasure but it didn't make me a gay!

    There's always adoption!

I've been through the Barcelona Messi shirt and onto the Man Utd shirt and thanks to second half of last season and especially OGrady my 9 year old has finally got a Barnsley shirt on his back.

Actually enjoying the atmosphere of the game and a winning team plus a star player are essential these days to get the kids interested with so many distractions around them.

My lad wears an Oldham Athletic shirt all the time, because of his Dad, and that is acceptable as far as I am concerned. However, he was also given a Man Utd short for Christmas from his Man Utd-supporting Grandma, because he likes Van Persie.

The redeeming feature with my kids though, is my eldest daughter who "supports" (pretty tenuously, admittedly) the Mighty Reds - as a result of being mascot for the club a couple of years ago (versus Leeds and Doncaster). There's hope yet............

My lad (8) has the new Reds shirt every year but he also has quite a selection of shirts. Man U, WHU, Liverpool, Barca, Real, Brazil.... Hundreds of the things.
He just likes football shirts. He always says he's a Reds fan if asked. Then goes on to say "I quite like Liverpool too"
I guess it's difficult nowadays because of all the exposure from Sky sports, Liverpool, Man U and Chelsea TV, and all the footy mags to get kids to be a fan of little old Barnsley.
When I was a kid you had "football focus" at the start if grandstand and maybe "The Big Match" on Sunday! Match of the day was too late at night.

No way am I ever buying my children any shirt other than a Barnsley one! Unless we've moved hundreds of miles away and they want to support the local team

All the kids at my lad's (age 6) school appear to be Man City fans, but he knows to remind them he's a Dale fan. Wears his blue & black scarf to school every day - but more because he thinks he's Tom Baker in it. He hasn't got this year's Dale kit because he thinks it's ****, he's right.

The difference is that only one of his mates has ever been to a game at City, whereas he has a season ticket for Dale. With it being free for under 7s I've no problem with him picking and choosing which games he fancies going to - dragging along kids at that age is pointless. But it appears his mates rarely have the option of their parents taking them to actual games, which is a shame. It's not as though City sell out every week.

Oh and Rhys has football kits for three different teams, don't worry.

Barnsley, England, and the British Olympic one...

Can't get him interested in coming to games though.
