Police seemed to realise that they were completely outnumbered - saw a cop filming at one stage though so I imagine there will be repercussions.
I think a lot of what you are saying is right pal but as has already been said, I'm not saying the stewards were 'right' in their views of acceptable behaviour/whatever (they probably were mind) but the way they were treated was horrible. And there's no excuse
Oh without question fans shouldn't be shoving stewards about etc. But I would extend that also to the stewards themselves. Some are great, but others are thugs. I'm sorry but some are. There seems to be an unwritten rule nowadays that stewards and police can treat fans like animals and in turn fans act disgracefully towards them. It really is time to reverse this trend. The ****** in the yellow jacket needn't be seen as the enemy.
Disagree! It's a 25k or so stadium with just shy of 10k in it. I didn't sit in my seats int family stand today and enjoyed moving around freely with my lad for a different view/perspective. Yes, we didnt abuse anyone in the process but if that's the case and BFC are welcoming the safe standing innitiative then surely you can't stop folk wanting to group together?!? Modern football is ****! Fact
That's what Middlesbrough have done. The 'Red Faction' they're called. Just a thousand or so behind the goals, no away fans or other home fans near them, covered in banners/flags that you usually see in Germany or summat, drums and constant singing for 90+ minutes. The rest of the place is like a morgue, mind. Which makes the 'faction' look/sound hilarious. It's like they're watching/attending a different game or summat.
That statement is absolute rubbish....I was one of the callers on Radio Sheffield..last week I didn't see exactly what went off,but today I took special notice...Doyle security acting like Robocops who think they own the place and can treat decent lads like scum..it was a disgrace today, hundreds of us..most I would say, like me normally the kind of person happy to see hooligans being thrown out..were in a mini revolt holding our season tickets up to have ours checked....and the 'we'll sit where we want' song they received was not unwarranted...it's very hard to protest any other way without getting physically involved and have them having a go directly at you,as someone said above they seem very careful to pick their targets, young kids who'd be blown over by a gust of wind seemed first choice to be picked on.It was a very unsavoury performance from Doyle and whoever sanctioned this from the club really needs to have a rethink...it's hard enough to get people through the gates at Oakwell these days without alienating decent fans...I saw it all..and decent young lads were being picked on for sitting in empty seats, that's all it comes down to..empty seats
Whoever sanctioned what exactly? Asking people to sit in their own seat and not in gangways and in areas where trouble has been previously caused? Would you say they were heavy handed and aggressive?
Yeah and that's exactly what I wouldn't want. An artificially placed 'Ultra' section bouncing about for 90 mins in their own little block of seats. Common sense would be to just allow the right side of the Ponty to be a natural singing section. Like it has been for years and years.
didn't you see the smoke bombs coming from there that injured somebody? THATS why the stewards are insisting on people thee sitting i ntheir own seat its not to stop singing
Yes..more so last week though,I think the fact that a lot more bystanders were paying attention may have held them back a little. I've run pubs for more than 27 years and have probably more experience than Doyle's staff of recognising k*******s when I see them, these lads they picked on did not fit that description in my opinion.
and there-in lies the problem. The younger fans go too far, copying what they see from abroad (or bloody Celtic). It's all pyro this and pyro that. Which is a shame because they are basically the only thing stopping Oakwell being totally silent most games. But I would hope the club and stewards could distinguish between those holding a smoke bomb and others simply jumping about. I don't think they care about distingushing who deserves to be banned as much as they care about the banning itself.
End of problem[/QUOTE] Sorry but thats ********! It depends on the context! Shouldn't be a variance if that's your stance. 2nd half. East Stand Lower. Pissing it down. Folk moving to shelter back under cover?!? Burn them at the stake
Not sure what went on today but I understand the lads sat in that area of the Ponte have been causing issues over the past games including letting off smoke bombs. I guess if they have continued that today after having their season tickets confiscated there will be further banning orders. Does sound a bit like the stewards may have got it wrong today though?
I sit near them and can honestly say overall they are usually no trouble...as to the smoke canisters..surely CCTV will see who the culprit is...chuck him out and ban him...why this charade that has taken place in the last two games I will never know...anyone who knows anything about door control will tell you it's important not to be seen to be causing trouble..that wasn't evident in the last two home games.
They've bin little annoyances for a while! That's not the issue. If the only thing (after months of incidents) they can be held accountable of is not sitting in their designited seats is a bannable offence then string us all. CCTV is prevalent we all know that! Just seems a shoddy way to crack a nut!
That's nothing new. Hillsborough last week, about 50 Barnsley fans walking and singing, some big lads and some older lads. A young short scraggy looking kid about 16 at the back trying to catch his mates up singing 'Red Army'. Guess which one was slammed up against a wall by Mr Policeman? Clearly hadn't done anything beacuse he was then allowed to continue without so much as a proper talking to!
I don't think it's got anything to do with them sitting in their seats but I guess that is the tactic the club are employing to try and defuse the problems they are causing.
