Centre Stand? Pah! Luxury of real wooden seats! We had to sit on one long bench, with wooden strips to signify which was your 'seat'! You could always hire a cushion, but my Dad never paid what he said was an extortionate price of 3d! He claimed it was a rip off. Blimey, mate! I sound like a someone from a Monty Python sketch!
Well I suppose I thought if I'm having a seat I might as well have a good one! I can still imagine the view from up there that season. Watching our stars like Harry Duerden, John Briscoe, Bob Earnshaw. Hard to believe that we are complaining about 2.5 million pound players not performing for us nowadays (Shea of course)
Went to loads in Vietnam, Thailand and Malaysia for very minimal amounts when I was in India got paid to go to a game (sort of) when I was an extra in a Bollywood film (don't ask)
ha similar experience here mate. Trained with Phuket FC while I was down there. But I didn't get in a bollywood film, I met a bollywood director.. Was quite pally with him for a few weeks.
1s (a bob) which is 5p in this new fangled money. That was the price for a junior to stand behind the Ponty/Brewery/Kop back in the swinging 60's.
I really enjoyed football out there. So enthusiastic pleasant contrast to the over hyped sky ******** over here. I went to David Rocastle's last match in Malaysia great days.
Glad you enjoyed it buddy, how long were you travelling for? life just happens when you are (like your all-star film career !) The football is a lot more "westernized" now but obviously not to the degree we're used to. Was actually weighing up whether or not to play for Phuket while I was there, poor pay and leaving behind a girlfriend/family/life in England vs playing football for a (kind of) living.
Travelled for 3 years. Then back in Uk for a year then got a job teaching in Cambodia for a year followed by another year in South East Asia. Yes stuff just happen it makes real life seem dull after.
£1 Man City away in the league cup, around 2004ish? Juvenile tickets were a quid if you bought them a fortnight before the game I believe. I was 15 at the time. Its the game we lost 7-1, Barry Conlon scored for us.
I was gutted I missed that match. It broke my propped record of witnessing every game we've let 7 goals in for years.
