One of the conditions for granting a licence to many venues be they theatres, halls or football stadium is that ticket holders should sit in the seat allocated to them.
I'd guess that many of the people that don't sit in their allocated seats are buying match day tickets, but want to sit (or stand) with their mates.
Well that clearly doesnt happen in any stand at Oakwell. Perhaps their are other ways to get this across other than what happened on Saturday. I don't believe licensing was the reason for what we saw on Saturday!
So how does the club square that for the friendly games when no seating arrangements are made at all?
I agree the club through its stewards is handling this badly. Whether or not it happens an any other stand is not the issue. The central question is - Is the club licensed to hold events on the condition that ticket holders sit in their allocated seats? If that's the case and some disgruntled supporters complain to the Licensing Authority then the club has a problem.
I'm not sure why what happened on Saturday has been turned into liscencing agreements about where people should sit. It's about the Ponty End stewards handling a situation completely incorrectly by bullying lads half their size and age.
Looking at the pic (post #4 ), the main characters look to be equal in size and considerably older then the stewards.
Thats much later in the incident..in fact the very last throwing out when some very annoyed people got involved...I do not condone that..but what was happening left a lot of people thinking the treatment of these lads was unfair..policing and stewarding can only be achieved by consent..or overwhelming force...Doyle security had neither
Yes, they are. However, the stewards started at the top with the young lads giving "it big" and intimidating them, then when they got down to the front after chasing one of them they did nothing because the blokes in the way were now their own size. Can't just have it one way.
This is towards the front of the Ponty and not near the ejections at the back/top of it. This is when the stewards had 'retreated' and were on their way back to the front. In pursuit of a 'young Un' who'd slipped the net. Recognise and know loads on there. Some very dedicated, well respected supporters some of whom are very regular posters on here!
Why then, when you go to pretty much every away game, do the stewards tell you to sit where you want?
Completely agree! If you scan the away fans they all sit in random 'pockets' and usually a group of younger end/singers congregate at the back....... sound familiar?????? The tickets are sold in batches, not randomly! The away fans wouldn't know how to select a seat! It's all ballax...
If it was a major issue why were the police not involved? It was just stewards throwing their weight about again. There was no call for that on Saturday at all and in my opinion they got what they deserved. Why don't they do more checks as you enter the stadium if they are worried about smoke bombs and other things being taken in? That pillock who stands in front of the stand in the orange jacket who looks to be in charge wants sacking with the rest of them and a decent firm want bringing in that are more professional and organised. My uncle followed barnsley home and away for 40 odd years until they decided he was drunk and took his ticket from him and he's not been back since. He'd been on nights and come straight through and not had any ale but they didn't care because they are hired thugs some of them not stewards. We've got some of the worst stewards going.
The bloke with the bald head is probably the best Barnsley fan I know . But the lad at side of him does have a stone island hat on so he must be an hooligan Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
He posts on here and has done for years, although he hasn't since the weekend. I'd like to read his thoughts on it as he's usually very sensible and he was clearly in the middle of it.
You could see something was going to happen couldn't you. To be fair to him and those around him they just stood their ground when it could have got quite nasty.

Agreed. When it was going off up the top of the stand the stewards were targeting bairns who didn't look five stone wet through. It must only be ten years or so since half the stand seemed to stand three to a seat on those back five rows. No body said a word, or really gave a ****.
