That game where Malcom Shotton scored from deep in the Ponty End car park, can't remember who it was against, people were leaving the upper tier of the East Stand that day half way through the game, thinking the whole thing was going to come down on them and it wasn't anywhere near as windy as it is tonight. My wheelie bins are currently circling the garden 20 ft off the ground in a Wizard of Oz stylee.
Re: Those who've gone to the evening with David Watson should be getting a good shaki Sunderland I think it was
Re: Those who've gone to the evening with David Watson should be getting a good shaki Sunderland. We won 2-0, I think Payton got the other goal.
Re: Those who've gone to the evening with David Watson should be getting a good shaki Against Sunderland on Friday neet weren'it ? think Payton got t'other.
Re: Those who've gone to the evening with David Watson should be getting a good shaki Yep, Sunderland. I mentioned that game when I wrote for WSB issue one. The day Dominic Matteo made his debut for them, illegally as it turned out. When folk started leaving due to the wind, "IT'S GOING TO FALL OVER!" folk were shouting, I got up to follow em (was only 12 or 13 or summat) and r old boy said "sit the **** darn daft lad" or words to that effect, "as if the wind is guna blow a stand like this over". "But they're all going" I said, pointing at the Lemmings heading down the gangways. "That's cos they're all ******* idiots, son" Aaaahhhhhh. What a childhood.
Re: Those who've gone to the evening with David Watson should be getting a good shaki didn't they do some work on the east stand after that game to strengthen it or have I made that bit up over the years?
Re: Those who've gone to the evening with David Watson should be getting a good shaki Never noticed the stand moving myself but I had a skinfull before the game so I had a reight wobble on anyway.
The stand was definitely rocking that night. We were told it was built to withstand gusts up to 90mph. I think that night it got to about 70mph.
Re: Those who've gone to the evening with David Watson should be getting a good shaki People were scared because it was moving. It's supposed to move in high winds if it was rigid the roof would have been damaged
Re: Those who've gone to the evening with David Watson should be getting a good shaki It was crackers, think they definitely did some work on it after to strengthen it, it wasn't even that windy.
Re: Those who've gone to the evening with David Watson should be getting a good shaki Ive still never come across that goal on video/dvd/youtube - saw it live but never seen a re-run. Anyone ever seen a copy of it anywhere?
Re: Those who've gone to the evening with David Watson should be getting a good shaki Sunderland. Me and our kid were sat right at back of the east stand he bobbed himself though he was only a young un. Got the highlights on a video somewhere
Re: Those who've gone to the evening with David Watson should be getting a good shaki Sad to miss Dave W but didn't fancy the drive in the wind
Re: Those who've gone to the evening with David Watson should be getting a good shaki I was sat next to the bloke who designed the stand that night http://bbs.barnsleyfc.org.uk/showthread.php?205079-Any-old-buggers
Re: Those who've gone to the evening with David Watson should be getting a good shaki I remember going about 5 years ago and the away end roof was blowing up! Who was that against they shut it and moved away fans into west stand I think.
Re: Those who've gone to the evening with David Watson should be getting a good shaki They are designed to move in high winds, like bridges and high structures. If they didn't, the stress would make them fall. Trouble is, Barnsley folk had never been up that high before and panicked. I used to watch Arsenal from the upper tier of the North Bank at Highbury and that would literally bounce when they scored. Made me giddy at first, then you get used to it. I watched Sheffield Wednesday get relegated from up there one season. Not long after Danny was sacked. Bizarre 3-3 draw, but enough to send them down. Henry twice for the Arse, summat else he were.
Re: Those who've gone to the evening with David Watson should be getting a good shaki I was in east upper that night. Was in legends suite tonight and besides noise of swirling advertisement boards outside the floor never moved
