Devastating blow to the Porridge Stirrer today.

Osborne, Alexander and Balls all united that the Scots can't have currency union.

So: 1) Use pound unofficially - and have no 'independent' control over your own economic policy; 2) Use the Euro, and trade independence from England for subjugation to Germany, etc; 3) Reinvent the Groat, or summat like - won't hold water because they'll be seen as not being good for their government debt given that this scenario would mean them not paying off their share of the UK National Debt.

Once the Independence vote is lost (which it will be) the Porridge Stirrer will have no future viable use.

Completely different view up here. Desperate and childish actions by Osborne.

Just to expand, it seems they're taking it as a bullying/intimidation tactic which will backfire on them.

Not my views, just what I've heard/read today.

Actually a masterstroke by the English politicians for a change.

    Well done to them.

I'd say a bit of an own goal by Osbourne.

One thing is for sure, it didna go down at all well here in Scotland. Salmond isna daft. He's just waiting his time. Still a lot to come out and if that's the No's best shot I'd say they have lost it.

BT it sounds you want us to lose the referendum. Would you prefer we remained part of the UK? Are we that valuable?
Cameron and Osbourne seem to think so.

What will you be voting Ian (if you don't mind me asking), and how do you think it will go?

My ignorant view on the situation is that maybe Scotland doesn't have the population to support an economy better than the one that exists now, but by my own admission I really don't know if it's a good or bad thing for Scotland or the UK.

Sooner we get that wall up the better, let them drown in urine and irn bru. The Scottish have always hated the English, they should be grateful that we have looked after them for so long.

Can't understand why the Scots would want to keep the pound with there independence being so valuable to them. Why share a currency which will always be managed in England, the same country they want to move away from. Sounds to me they want independence on the things which suit them.

I say lets get the wall built up, Passport Control on the borders and then look at the immigrants situation!

Jedstar, I don't mind you asking at all. I'm firmly in the YES camp. I know it will possibly be a close run thing but when you hear of all the scaremongering coming out of Westminster you have to wonder why they'd prefer to keep us. Surely we must have something to offer. Couldna see any body/country keeping another that was a drain on their resources. On that alone I don't see why we cannot survive and go it alone.
I listened to the Jeremy Vine program today and some very good points put over, like if England refuse to allow us to share the £ then all we do is get another currency and deny England any oil and gas from North Sea oilfields. Tit for tat, very childish I know but it could happen. Also billions of £'s will be saved by us being nuclear free and leaving England with the whole expence of Trident and moving it out of Faslane.

Like I said a lot still to happen and TBH why would anyone wish to remain ruled by this Tory govt when we'd be more than happy to be governed by a socialist one from Scotland.

IMO the yes have the upperhand ATM.

    have i got this wrong

Scotland want to use the UK currency and all the perks that go with it
Scotland also want to build UK warships and the perks that come with it
Scotland also wants to have the offices of the UK tax, and of course all the perks that go with it
But they don't want to be any part of the UK

if they want it that much let them go, let them find their own currency, let them build their own army, let them build their own ships....

I personally don't care either way, I am just an interested bystander, a neutral at a football match if you like.

However, the English politicians seem to care very much about keeping Scotland part of The UK, so I was merely commenting on their tactic; which will make alot of the wavering Scots **** themselves and vote against independence IMO. I don't think the Scottish Nation has the guts to vote Yes, especially without the pound.

It's like the little kid that's the friend of the school bully; he might not really approve of what the bully does, but he's still going to hang about with him for protection.

I would imagine Question Time will discuss the issue tonight so maybe a little more info on the matter might come out.
Then again QT might come from Hertfordshire and the only subject will be how can we get the whole country to pay for their flooding. I mean I heard that there are many Polo pitches and Tennis courts under 2 feet of water. Some things are more important than Scottish Independence.

What I'd like to know is WHY are the English so keen to hold on to us. Especially this Tory Govt as they have absolutely no voters here.

And Bt you say you don't care either way. Well maybe you should because should we go everything changes. Either you (English) will be better off or worse off. I'd say you will be worse off, which is why there is a panic to keep us.
