Everyone thinks he's our best defender, and maybe he is. But is he "esprit de corps", or is he playing for Martin Cranie?

    I'm starting to wonder if he's a bit of a Jason Shackell-type?

On what grounds would you compare him to Shackell!? I think it would be highly unfair to accuse him of being disloyal to anyone.

If he was a Jason Shackell type, our goals against column would look a lot healthier. N'er mind loyalty, Cranie's not Bobby Hassell, no.

I just don't get the Winstanley/Howard/McCarthy/Evans/De Zeeuw/Moses vibe from this guy.

If you don't agree with me watch how quick he's off in the Summer.

I think he's been our best player this season. But then again, I also think Chris O'Grady is a Championship quality striker. So I'll admit I know nowt about football.:)

Chris O'Grady thinks he's Premiership quality, JLWBL. How dare you!

If we stay up I think he will still be with us next season. He is our best defender in my opinion.

You don't think he's good enough for the Championship. Then again, three years ago I didn't think the club were going backwards under Mark Robins. Which explains probably why I didn't persistently keep posting on here that it was.

No. Must confess I don't. I think he desperately lacks pace.

Think I said the club was going nowhere, JLWBL - not wishing to split hairs, mind.

I think the interval since we hacked Robins off is what's led to our present travails.

Chris will be gutted to hear that!! :D

Cranie's good, but he doesn't have the organisational skills of Shackell. Wish he did.

    Which is what I said.
I'll openly admit I know nowt about football. At least I can get educated by those who do.

He's our best defender. I feel him & Ramage are a decent partnership

No - you said "going backwards". Fine distinction, I admit. But I think when we went backwards was with the appointment of Wrecking Ball (and Flicker after him).

Nobody knows owt about football - it's all opinions, innit?

He doesn't possess the same level of loyalty to the team and club as Jason, either. Nor does he have the level of popularity within the club. I find it astonishing that Cranie's commitment to the team & club is firstly questioned and secondly, having Shackell being held up as an example of what is required from our captain. There are times when I'm quite glad I'm as thick as I am. Being knowledgeable on such issues doesn't make much sense to me.:)

You remember things differently to me.
Yes, you're right it IS all about opinions.

I don't think either of them were/are fully esprit de corps.

I'm beginning to think we won't turn a corner till we've cut out the remainder of the Hillcroft Brigade.

Jeez, we could be playing Rochdale next season.

    Glad I won't be there.

I'll be there next season and still believe I'll be watching Championship football. It doesn't make me a better fan than those who aren't going to go. But my going to watch Barnsley has never been based on what success the club may or may not have, a good job really. I do it because I love it. Ill health, a more 'franchise' approach by the club or a change in personal circumstances are the only things I believe will stop me going to watch us.

Does Cranie insist that all players must only refer to him as 'captain'?

Does he cheat on his missus regularly and show teammates photos of each 'conquest'?

    Is he a lovely person?

I'm going to say no, on all three.

He's also better than Shackell at football. End of Fred.

I like Cranie, but he really isn't.

In your opinion. In mine, he is.
