Anybody else think he went OTT in his interview yesterday when referring to Wigan and their "Premiership" players etc? In fact, that interview was like a Keith Hill one. Only, Keith got slaughtered for that kind of attitude. Not digging Danny out here, I'm fully supportive of him. Just thought it was a valid point.
Danny has said it once, to my knowing, Keith said it every single interview - 'lowest budget' , 'premier league players' etc etc
Said it last week before and after the Ipswich game - "let's be right, these are Premiership players". And to be fair to Keith, his team was full of lower league players, so it kind of made sense. Danny's team has plenty of Premiership players in it. But as I say, it doesn't overly fuss me, never did under Keith either. What fusses me is the different rules for different managers.
Danny has a more positive outlook to his interviews in my opinion, whereas under that berk it required a phone call to the Samaritans afterwards!
Noty heard it , but if he starts off with that ***** he may as well walk away now ! No room at Oakwell for defeatism .
I agree. As I say, nowt against Danny. More of a point about the difference in attitude towards different managers doing/saying the same things. But let's remember, this forum was full of fans (vast majority) saying Keith was ace, from September 2011 to February 2012. And in September of 2012, there were threads on here saying they didn't want a takeover if it meant losing Keith. I think my point was basically, football fans - in the main - are proper fickle.
Barnsley fans are the ficklest of them all - just for the record I was never a fan of Keith, I thought he came to us to use us as a stepping stone and thought he was bigger and better than the club. If we go do go down the season I pray that Rochdale come up so we can give the smug get a pasting!
It's not defeatism I don't think, mate. It's an excuse trotted out by managers who want to protect their players (in public) and/or themselves from any blame/criticism. I understand why they do it. Not a problem with it. My point was , it's the same thing that Keith did and got pelters for doing. I'm assuming it's ok that Danny does it because he's never done us wrong...
Every manager comes here to use us as a stepping stone. Most players do as well. We're little old Barnsley (as Keith once said). Danny used us as a stepping stone. No problem with them doing that, because to make that 'step' they first have to achieve summat with us. Like Danny did, before jumping ship to the Wednesday..
Like I said if he starts off with that ***** , he might as well **** off now, because I had enough from the last 2 tossers !!
I think the difference is that Wilson has done it after a game in a 'ok yeah we lost but we lost against one of the leagues best teams and there's plenty of weaker sides left to play so don't write us off just yet' kind of way while Hill did it before and after every single game and kept saying we couldn't compete with anyone in the league and essentially were waiting for the drop. big difference in what they both said in my opinion
I disagree, in his previous tenure Danny wasn't putting himself in the frame for every job that became available unlike that pudding from over the hills. I will end my relationship with the club if Danny is forced out and not given the 3 years I believe he should be given to get this club back to at least where we were 3 years ago.
Bored. Wanted an argument. I fully endorse your view - Danny deserves a long term contract, right now. Let him build in the Summer, whatever the division.
I wish you hadn't agreed, I was hoping for an argument too, trying to pass the time till Arsenal play ze germans
Me too, mate. I've tried to stir the hornets nest with a couple of threads, but even that's bored me.
I think he is being positive as possible before a season defining game on Saturday. He is trying to take positives to give his players confidence. That seems pretty obvious to me.
I know that, mate. I said as much further up the thread. I was merely looking for an argument. Playing Devil's Advocate or whatever it's called. I'm bored (until 7.45).
Ha! Think we need to offer him a new contract now. Can't think of a better manager to be in charge whichever league we are in. Fed up of short termism and would like to see us rebuild properly.
