Good insight into how a Footballer thinks.

Also shows how gutted they are when they don't get picked for England when they feel they are good enough....

Will he get into the WC squad???

No. He plays in the MLS. He's done, and he knew that before he moved there. He wanted one last payday.

    Not a chance.

Rooney, Sturridge, Welbeck and an other will go. I'd take Lambert as the other.

no hope of him making the squad which is a shame because he's good for a goal.

Welbeck will go (unfortunately, he's sh!te) Sturridge, Rooney and one of Rodriguez and Lambert, probably the latter.

Not for me. Never been good enough at the top level.

I'd go Sturridge, Rooney, Welbeck & Carroll (if he stays fit, if not Lambert)

Never been quite good enough at international level bit of a flat track bully scoring shed loads against lesser teams not so many against good ones. There are far better options though we have an incredibly weak national team due to car crash that is the Premiershit.

'Never been good enough at the top level'

'Never been good enough at international level'

He's got 19 goals from 55 caps which isn't exactly bad - and has actually started only 21 games. 34 sub appearances - what's he expected to do?

He's got only 6 goals in 24 friendly appearances, probably because most of his sub appearances were in friendlies. He's got 13 in 31 competitive caps - I'd say that's pretty good.

Overall 19 goals in 2355 minutes. Nearly one every 120 minutes, or three goals per four completed games. Never been good enough.

He might be past his best now - id say he's wasted in America (I know it's canada, it's the American League), but I wouldn't be disappointed if he's selected. I don't expect him to be but I'd pick him over welbeck and Rodriguez, I'd probably take rooney, sturridge, Carroll and lambert, though I doubt many would agree with both Carroll and lambert and to be fair welbeck's England record is good, looks a lot better for England than he does his club which is something true of only him.

Defoes best years are behind him but to say he's never been good enough is wide of the mark. He's been under selected, the 2006 World Cup debacle and plenty of other examples come to mind.

I also think it's harsh to say he's not good enough. He's a good goal scorer and if that's true then 1/120 minutes is excellent .

Do I think he''ll go? No
We've got a good group to pick from and I would go with a Rooney sturridge welbeck Carroll .

Stats don't mean a lot at international level. In qualifying groups you get 2 or at the most 3 decent sides out of 6 or 7. Both Crouch & Defoe's records were built on scoring against poor sides.

Defoe's never really delivered for England in important games & he's never done it on a consistent basis against top sides in the premiership.

As the poster above says he's a bully of a striker, feasts on scoring against weak opposition

How many opportunities has he had?

Similarly do you think he's been given proper opportunity at Tottenham in the last few years?

I would take Dafoe. We have the poorest set of strikers in living memory, but I would take him with Sturridge, Caroll and one of the Southampton lads. I would take Rooney as a midfielder, but he's unlikely to start a match.

In recent years no but that's because he's not the type of player who can play up front on his own so his managers preferred to go with a target man.

Under Redknapp he got lots of chances & was inferior to Keane so ended up as a back up striker
