The Arctic Monkeys don't do smack, Alex is just a little eccentric, but that's what being famous does to ya... At least he isn't a boring lovely person! As for the albums, I've loved every single one. Undoubtedly they're best album is they're debut album, but my personal favourite is Humbug (3rd album). I really thought about going to Leeds Fest cos I too love Blink-182, but I'm off abroad in summer instead. A decision I'll most likely regret cos them 2 are superb headline acts and there are some decent acts performing throughout the weekend! Is Tom DeLonge still porky?
first album was very good, something different. every thing else been ***** apart from the "Do you wanna know" song which is very good Alex has always been a bit of nob although I found his first speech tonight quite funny
Same as oasis for me, the members of the band themselves are complete kunts but the music is the best of their generation, to see people write their own music and play instruments in this day and age is quite reare so it's quite refreshing to see this lot continue to perform
Thirded. I bought their first album, thought it was crap. Played it again 6 months or so later and my opinion hadn't changed. Never played it since.
Monotone voice, distinct lack of actual guitar skills, and dressing/acting like he invented 50s fashion. Impressive. Tell you what, I'll sit down with anybody that reckons they're a musician (or anyone that isn't), and show them exactly why AM are nothing special.
Agree with this, went off them for a while after the 2nd album, but their latest album is pretty good. R U Mine was my personal favourite, they've truied to change direction again as they had become a bit stale on our last 2 albums.
Mr C's opinion is the only one that counts and I'm sure he will be along to put us all straight. They do absolutely nowt for me though.
I like their music but Alex Turner has turned into a pantomime dame. He should let the others do a bit of the talking cos he's clueless with his inane boring ramblings. And as for dropping the mike on the floor and saying "Send me the bill". Haha, that's up there with smashing your guitar live on stage and lobbing a telly out of the apartment window. . If he wanted to be rock and roll he shouldn't have turned up.
I was referring to musicians, clearly. I certainly don't believe less is more on the BBS, which without myself and a handful of others would soon turn into TykesMad, the morgue of message boards.
Lack of guitar skill? **** off! Have you not heard Brianstorm? In fact have you actually heard one of their songs? One thing they don't lack is guitar skill. Anymore stupid reasons for slating em? Cos they're deedahs?
I get really annoyed with threads like this Responses like 'they're *****' are pretty much par for the course on the BBS these days if anyone dare say they have an opinion on something. I love the Arctic Monkeys, think they're class. Lost their way a touch, but even on the Humbug and Suck It and See albums there were some belting tracks. No band or musician is universally liked, but don't call someone ***** if they're breaking records for awards won, selling out back to back shows at Finsbury Park within hours, selling millions of records, etc. I'm don't personally like Bruce Springsteen or The Rolling Stones, to the point I left their sets at Glastonbury within three songs. But only because they're not my cup of tea, not because I think they're *****.
Couldn't care less where they're from. I do know brainstorm, what's supposed to be so special about it? The fact I've heard a number of young bands covering it suggests nothing. We obviously have different views of what equates to talent, which is fair enough, so I'll leave you to it.
Spot on Loko the Tyke! Every single album they've released has been number 1 in the UK and done well worldwide. It's extremely difficult for any band to get a number 1 these days, pop and r'n'b rule the charts now, so for The Arctic Monkeys to have had each album number 1 is a massive achievement for them and the indie genre. Like I said at start of this thread before it got bombarded with absolute tripe about them being ****... The most consistent band out there ATM!
Add to that they were the best of the three headliners at Glastonbury (and one of the rare bands to have headlined twice), continue to rack up awards, and sold out Finsbury Park twice in less than 90 minutes (the same rate as The Stone Roses)
The last single was the best to date. Not a lot to beat mind Agree about the guitar skills, very poor
