Which is good, I never used to get any. However, they're all trying to sell me tickets to home games. Every home game a number of these turn up. Again, fine, but I've got a season ticket and have had for years. Such e-mails aren't much good to me.

Do former season ticket holders get these e-mails? Hope so, 'cos they should be the prime target. I have a sinking feeling about that though...

Shouldn't be too difficult to set up more than one mailing list. Those of us who have season tickets don't need to be sold home match tickets, but there's no reason we can't be sent different e-mails trying to flog us summat else. The people on the database who don't have season tickets should be the ones targeted for mail shot described above.

Agreed. It doesn't take much to sort your database and target mail accordingly.

As long as they don't start asking for your bank details and sort code then don't worry about it

I get loads too, even though I've had a season ticket since 1887. I've relegated them to the spam tin.

I've had them since the turn of the year. Think it's a good thing.

That's the main point. Many will do the same. Then when (if) they do send anything of interest to us, no one will read it as it will be lost amongst the penis enlargement formulae and PPI claims. Send clients the wrong info and it's worse than sending them nothing at all, because all future communication will just be binned.

Communication is only effective when targeted correctly though.

As Jay said lapsed ST holders, and those who buy matchday tickets from the box office - they should be getting the e-mails encouraging them to buy tickets. ST holders ought be being e-mailed with some incentive to bring a friend/friends along, that sort of thing rather than one generic message to all the different goups.

Agreed. Funnily enough, I got one today but it went automatically straight into the junk folder on its own, so I only saw it by accident. Prior to that I at least had to click on them to delete them.

However, at least something is happening, even if it takes some time to get it right.

I really wouldn't know the detail involved, but from what yourself and Jay are saying, I'm guessing it's pretty easy to send different emails to differing groups of supporters? Or at least, emails to ST holders and different emails to everyone else?

Funny. They have my email address and have done for years. Can't recall the last one they sent...

Depends I suppose on the management system you use to store your database.

I'd hope - because in relative terms it should be easy and cheap for BFC to have a system that allows them to ID current ST holders, lapsed ST holders, matchday tickets buyers and so on. From that it's a matter of a database search using whichever parameters you want to set to get a targeted audience for your communication(s).

Come on. We're talking barnsley fc here. They won't have a crm or even a knocked up access. It'll be a chuffin spreadsheet. If that.

    Cheers, pal.

I get these emails, and I'm no longer a ST holder, so they're probably aimed at the likes of me. But I can honestly say that my choice to attend a match can never be influenced by this kind of communication. If I'm able to go, I'll go. It's that simple. But i'm guessing they're hoping to reach lapsed fans. As in, those who stopped attending altogether, during the Hillcroft/Robins era.

No idea if this email scheme is working. But I do credit them for trying. Small steps and all that.

I heard it's a list that Rib Noodles scribbled down on the back of a strongly worded letter from the FA.

They absolutely have to do this sort of thing, but there has to be a method behind it, a targeted message and have an invitation to buy that connects with the customer. It should be monitored too to judge its effectiveness and amended accordingly.

Totally agree. And let's hope it bears fruit.

Kinel, it's like being in a meeting or summat this.
