Be a mod then you'll like all sorts of music. In seriousness it's all in the eye of the beholder I guess.
I like ALL music as long as its performed well. Punk, pop, garage, indie, opera, folk, classical, reggae, grunge, heavy metal, you name it and you will find some examples in my music collection
right about what? you asked two questions. so yes, you are right that you asked two questions. well done you
Re: had an idea you would be on ... blowing yer own trumpet I have to say I hate folk music - I reckon most folk bands are on the fiddle
I'd challenge anyone to have a more varied (or more stupid) taste in music than me. Not challenge as in 'I'm better than you', because there's no way my iPod selection would win any awards with anyone. All about personal taste. The only genre I do turn my nose up at is some of this RnB rubbish and **** rap, but even then you'd probably find examples of that in my playlist.
yes you probably would. robert johnson, leadbelly, otis redding, james brown...all r&b, all brilliant. public enemy, mos def, nwa, all rap. all brilliant. i think the only genre i universally dislike is thrash metal. pantera and the likes. haven't found anything in that lot that i enjoy
Ok, in that sense you've got two eras of RnB. I wouldn't put James Brown and Otis Redding in the same musical genre as Mystique or Nicki Minaj, would you? Saying that, I always loved Alesha Dixon so again you'll find both versions on my iPod. Even thrash metal has had a time and place in my life. Leeds Festival back in 1998, the Deftones playing the Apollo in '99. Proper don't like it now (getting old), but did back then, and still have a few favourites I can listen to.
Of course there are rules. If it's in the charts, it's ****. If more than me and the band have heard of the band, they're ****. If the band do stadium tours, they're sell-out ****. If it's a collaboration and uses the words "featuring" or "versus", it's ****. If the artist is called "DJ", it's ****. If there are samples of other songs within the song, it's rip-off ****. If there's any sign of a harp, it's soft ****. If it can be played using only a snare, bass drum and hi-hat, it's ****. If I don't like it, it's ****. Pretty much common sense really.
And if the video to the song consists of the lead guitarist flying thru the air on a wire while wearing spandex trousers then it's ****
I shall write a book of music rules which shall be adhered to at all times, and updated when I take an irrational dislike to the lead singer of any band.
