At the one I went to Barnsley won, and in terms of team selection, formation, substitutions, performance, application and result I've got **** all to moan about. The complete opposite in fact, I've had a great weekend and I'm well chuffed both with and for my team. Ran their guts out them lads and represented my club exactly like I want them to. When we lose, I get it, I don't usually agree with it, but I sort of understand it. When we win it's completely beyond me.
Pretty much sums up my feelings. Did we play like Barcelona? No. Do we genuinely expect to? No. We won. Decent enough performance and a step nearer possible survival. I'm happy enough.
In the build up to the game, all I heard & read it was a 'Must Win' game. We won, battled hard throughout, played some decent football at times. However, it appears there were certain caveats not previously mentioned. After the event, suddenly it wasn't enough for it to simply be a must win game. The must win game also had to be done in a particular style. The must win game also had to be by a specific margin. Failure to do so then means OTT criticism of the team as a whole & certain players individually. Personally, I'll be very pleased if we win all our remaining home games by the same score and we put in the same effort & application.
Just felt strangely deflated not sure why. We won that of course was a reason to be happy. And I hope that I still in us some confidence and swagger. Limited opponents were really there for the taking stead we refused to put any players in the box for a last minute corner. I'd just like to see us play without fear once this season.
You were at the one I was at Jay. It was an absolutely massive 3pts, IMO never looked like letting one in (although I was still extremely nervy), can't see much to be disappointed with. All contributed.
The more games we win, the more the fear factor will disappear as self confidence returns. Before kick off, NO ONE put forward any of the afore mentioned caveats. Just a victory was all that was required. We did win. We did what everyone was demanding. Now it's not enough.
Perhaps it was enough for yesterday but people believe that more is required if we are to win further games?
I think potentially as I didn't particularly see it as a must win game I think those were Yeovil, Donny, Charlton and Wednesday at home I was hoping to be entertained a bit. I think If we had not won and played so negatively there would be a lot of despondency. I hope the point about wins Instilling confidence is true as I don't believe we lack ability just any sort of self belief.
Perhaps people can broach the subject when those games arise, then. No one was mentioning it before kick off yesterday, just win. It seems some people get what they want and still complain.
we weren't playing further teams we were playing Millwall fc. They played a different formation, 343 wasn't it.
As I've said already today, yesterday's display was exactly that. I'm pretty sure Danny and Micky will set us up differently, play a different style in other games to come. Horses for courses. Yesterday was about winning. We did it. Could/should have been two or three nil. The lads grafted throughout. Only one fantastic save had to be made by Steele. Job done. Onto the next one.
That maybe so, but why moan about a bloody win ? Its not like we have had chuffing many to celebrate is it ? What was a decent enough match, has been made out to be rubbish. Barnsley are at the bottom end of the league, because we are NOT a fantastic team with a squad of superstars, we have to out work most teams to get a result, yet that is no longer enough for some idiots. I know we have improved our team since Christmas, but it seems to have been ignored that all the others have done the same thing as we have !!
I don't understand the last bit HT, what do you mean? And yes I do get that with the first bit so hopefully we'll raise our game to beat the better sides
We got the lead, could/should have added to it, grafted throughout, and limited Millwall to just the one clear chance. No idea what else folk were expecting.
I havent actually moaned about a win. My only moan is that we did it with 10 players in the first half and that is simply not good enough as we cant afford to carry anybody. If we could afford to carry a player with no commitment in the middle then mccourt should be in the side not mellis as they both have the same weaknesses but one has far superior strengths
They played a formation that isn't normal and that caused the reds some problems. With Forests and Leicesters of this world will not play the forations I wouldn't have though and won't cause us those problems.
I was replying to your point about PEOPLE, not you in particular. I disagree about Mellis too, I think he is a good player , you dont , fair enough , I am not going to argue about opinions !
